4. I don't mind the cold but I not a fan of snow
It's not too bad if I don't have to go anywhere...I just hate driving in it. I hope this winter isn't like last year. Last winter, it seemed like every few days we would get snow. It wasn't tons (a few inches each time) but enough to make the roads messy again. We just got snow last night but it was only about 2 inches. This storm it suppose to bring six inches or more...not fun.

6. Yes. Last winter was only survivable by the heartiest of souls.
I'll join you in hoping this one isn't as bad.

7. I'm the opposite
I can live with a lot of snow ( I just got a new snowthrower and I have good winter tires), but the cold is a downer.

Last week, we got down to -28C (-18 Fahrenheit).

This ain't normal for December.

11. I have sciatica. Shoveling that sjit takes me half a day ... and the rest of it to recover.
I have to take 4-6 ibuprofen just to shovel through the pain. :grr: :grr:

12. I used to bolster my allowance by shoveling snow as a kid.
Aren't there any neighborhood younguns who might be enterprising enough to earn a little movie money?

15. For some reason, I don't see teens doing that these days.
I have a neighbor who's had sporadic employment and long periods of being out of work. He's in his late 40s and a carpenter/woodworker and he has a snow blower. When he's available, I'm happy as hell to give him $20-25 to do it. I wouldn't have made it through last winter (at least a dozen snowfalls of over 2") without him. I still have to give it the "fine touches" so my mother (she's 89 and uses a walker) can get to and from the car safely. (Such is life for an 'assisted living' caregiver.)

18. I don't know how it is where you are, but one option might be
to phone up the local Unitarian Church Youth Minister and ask if two young folks might not be contracted to handle your snow emergencies.

Doesn't have to be Unitarian, of course. The last two churches I went to were Catholic and Unitarian. (don't ask!)

Anyway, those youth ministers tend to be pretty good motivators most of the time, and by and large their young folks are fairly mature and reasonable to talk with. And they'd be a lot cheaper than snow contractors.

Might be worth a phone call.

21. Well, there's a UU church just 2 blocks away.
I stopped by once and chatted casually with the minister for a few minutes ... seemed like a decent guy. Most of the folks there are older and (cough) a bit rotund (like me) .... and I've not seen any teens around there. I could check, though. Good tip. Thanks!
:hi:

16. Its easy to be careful when you move 5 miles in two hours.
I think I'll just stay late and get some work done.

I don't know if I can do two drives like that in a row.

19. Snow is NORMAL there - it's SNOWING here in VEGAS! Over a FOOT!
I had to shovel my driveway BEFORE I could get in!

Just like my Grandmother's place in the Black Rock/Riverside section of Buffalo for chrissake!

With ruts in the street and mounds at the intersections and everything!

THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN HERE!!!
