Sorry, Newt: you invented that issue in presidential politics.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in Nashville that the personal lives of White House hopefuls shouldn't become an issue in the 2008 campaign.

Earlier this month Gingrich said he was seeking forgiveness for his own extramarital affair committed while he pursued President Clinton's impeachment in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Since the announcement, Gingrich said he's received a positive response from colleagues and others.

He's considering a race for the presidency. Gingrich was in Nashville Tuesday night to speak at Vanderbilt University.

on Edit: Remember THIS?

He's a liar, a hyprocrite and a CRYBABY! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

24. The propensity for delusion combined with arrogance is absolutely mind
boggling, head shaking ridiculous and incredible.

He came into power because the entire horrendously large war machine that he belonged to went to work to destroy a man, a family, a law career, a Presidency. They never succeeded in most of it and now he is saying that he should be protected from all that?

How can you get more balls than he has?

39. If I were his opponent, and I ha donly one marriage,
I'd make it a subtle issue every time I spoke.

Any sort of "marriage amendment" debate, I'd talk about divorce rates and the harm to American families.

I'd talk about selfishness, careerism (at the expense of family), mid-life crises, projection of self-hatred posing as moral rectitude (heh, he, I said rectitude).

I wouldn't let this smarmy bastard get 5 minutes into a debate without subtly reminding him of his desertion of family, fidelity, and self-sacrifice.

Newt is a dangerous, self-consumed, dangerous man. Complete pathological narcissist. Haven't' we had enough of narcissists? How many years has it been now? Since Carter?

40. His desperation is palpable
He is so yesterdays' news, still pathetically trying to be relevant as his megalomania propels him toward a future that only he can discern.

No longer the Republick Wunderkind, more the poster boy of their own hubris.

Reaping a harvest of bitter fruit from the poison seed sown by his own hand.

Bill Clinton is not a candidate but it is pretty much a given that his personal life will be an enormous issue to the Republicans in the event his wife wins the Democratic nomination.
