Let The Republicans Filibuster! What's The Problem With That?
So what's the fricken problem? Just stay in session until you've got the 60 votes .... be a a day, a week or right up until January 3rd!

I bet the filibuster would end long before than.

All filibusters end.

Think the Republicans can hold out and filibuster until January 4th, 2009 .... Or January 1st or even December 25th? I doubt it.

So why the hell do Reid and other Democratic Senators fear a filibuster so much?

It's beginning to look like Reid and company are using the scary threat of a Republican filibuster as a lame excuse for their inaction, rather than as good reason to hold up or withdraw bills.

2. They have filibustered successfully under his leadership several times -
Without having to bother to actually filibuster.
Harry is a firm believer in not making them have to actually stand up and do it.
He prefers a more "polite" "virtual" filibuster.

IMO it makes them far more eager to do it than they would be if they had to hang out throughout the holidays.

Harry is completely useless, or a republican mole, hard to say which.

5. Right, Republicans call in and say they are filibustering!
They have never actually taken the Senate floor to filibuster!

Reid's probably to the right of Leiberman. He's a right-wing Mormon from a so-called "right-to-work" state.

But, the Democrats could demand he stand up to the Republicans and make them filibuster on the floor and for days until they give up on blocking the auto loan.

7. It would as you say, have to come from pressure applied by other Senators
No way would Reid ever stand up to his friends.
I will try to email/mail/call my Senators as well as sympathetic ones like Boxer in the hopes they can apply a little pressure.

I would suggest you and others do the same.
Thanks for the input I never would have thought to do a reach around on Reid without your last reply. :-)

8. You Need 60 Votes In Order To Vote On Legislation Without A Filibuster!?

"The Senate voted 52-35 to bring the measure for a vote, but that was short of the 60 votes needed to advance the legislation."

So according to the Senate rules adopted by the Democrats you need 60 votes to bring legislation to a vote???

The Republicans don't even have to threaten a filibuster!

What kind of bull shit is this?
