Michelle Duggar Will Give Birth On TV

On the Duggar's reality show 17 Kids and Counting, we learn that they are extremely conservative and religious people. All the girls wear full-length skirts and keep their hair long. They all want to be wives who are skilled at cooking and cleaning. When the oldest Duggar son was engaged, he had a no-touching rule with his fiancee. They did not touch! The Duggars try to live the purest of pure lives and that's why it's kind of surpising that they have agreed to do a reality TV show. And now Michelle Duggar has agreed to show her vagina on TV. Sort of.

Michelle and Jim Bob's 18th child will do cartwheels out of her vagina sometime in January. And when the next J.Duggar comes out, TLC's cameras will be there to document the whole thing.

They might as well turn it into a star-studded special event! Oprah can open the show by performing a haiku about "vayjayjay" at the base of Michelle's coochie. After a series of performances by the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, Florence Henderson and the cast of The Brady Bunch will emerge from her vagina carrying the 18th Duggar. Fireworks will shoot out of her snatch and everyone will rejoice!

If they want to make even more money, they can set up stadium seating in her 'gina and sell tickets!

than a woman giving birth again. When I surf I catch, daily, women screaming in pain with families gathered around screaming "The Crown is Coming!" and everyone Cheers.

I hardly think this births is any different except for those who find some prurient interest in cataloging how many live births on TV they can pack in for lack of better things to do.

These people are no longer having children because they long to have children. They are having children to assure their place in the record books and to keep the show's ratings high.

That's why I put " " around the word Christians. I don't know many true Christians, so most of them make a mockery of the whole religion and end up being hypocrites with no commitment.

96. Usually large families do better when there is a lack of resources.
Large families are usually tight knit and can pull their resources together and combine that with the fact that they have an abundance of laborers living under one roof and they will probably be better off than a small family during the coming depression.

65. Religion (power) has something to do with it.
My ex mother-in-law came from a very poor Catholic family from Ireland; I think there were at least 13 children in a two-room shanty with dirt floors. Her mom died at a young age shortly after the last child was born. Some of my ex mother-in-law's siblings were fine with this, but a few of them definitely were not!

Jonathan Swift satirized that problem many years ago.

Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 07:58 PM by BerryBush
and wasn't a fundie, I wonder how long it would be before the cries of "racism," "sexism," etc., would begin.

Just saying.

Some of us on DU talk a good game about other people's freedom to do whatever they want to, so long as they can afford it and it doesn't scare the horses...but when it's a white Christian fundie whose beliefs differ from ours, we're not so good with it. We're more than ready to tell them how many children it is proper that they should have and to say crude things about their female organs and their husband's overuse of his equipment. It's all fair game, so long as they're white, Christian fundies.

Me? I don't get why they're doing what they're doing, and I thoroughly disagree with their philosophies, especially when it comes to the role of women. But I really don't see how them cranking out another kid is skin off my nose. It's not as if they're expecting me to pay for it. And even if they were, I'm hard put to set myself up in the role of dictating the size of other people's families.

And I don't see how looking down it at her is radically different from looking down my nose because someone is gay, or Muslim, or whatever.

I will retreat now, before I wish I'd put on the asbestos suit.

Edited to add: Yes. I agree they have invited public comment because of the public way they have chosen to have their brood. (On TV? Please.) But when you do make public comment, well, consider that there are other people out there saying the same crude things about people because they're transsexual, or because they have tattoos all over their bodies, or what have you. If that's fine with you, go ahead and ridicule away. Just realize, you're not sitting on a moral high horse, you're just participating in the great recreational sport known as sitting around looking at other people and saying "Ewww, that's disgusting, I would NEVER do THAT."

86. I agree with your position
It is really not our business, unless the Duggers start stealing food from others to feed their brood, or it is found that they are abusing the children. As for their "show"--hey, we don't have to watch it.

In the nineteenth century, large families like this were common--in my own family history, one great great grandmother had 15--but several died at very young ages. I think the whole mindset of having large families back then was to make sure that at least some of the kids survived to look after the parents in their old age, among other things. The Duggers have kept this mindset. If you could plop them into a time machine and put them back at, say, 1898, they wouldn't be considered that extraordinary.

They seem to be able to support them...the kids don't look malnourished and none of them have killed anyone or are in drug rehab.

Those kids, I don't care how many they have. If they can feed them, give them a roof over their heads and turn them into self reliant responsible citizens, I don't care what party they belong to, what God they worship, etc...

these people are just weird. If they are so 'christian' why aren't they helping children in need instead of bringing more kids into the world?

50. Environmental impact, for one
They also eat a lot of crap. I just checked their website and they've removed the Recipes section (perhaps because they've switched to the Navy Cookbook), but one of the more popular--well, as a source of derision anyway--dishes on the Duggars' website was the Tater Tot Casserole, which was probably every bit as hideous as its name suggests.

Sheesh...Moral Equivilization that doesn't make sense. Why don't you focus on the Bushies and their ideology who wrecked millions of lives in Iraq instead or worrying about one single family who has their right to do what they want. Don't you believe they have the same rights to do with their bodies that the rest of us do?

100. I can focus on more than one thing at a time
Check the archives; I've been focused on this maladministration for a long time...like, since his dad was vice-president.

Are you aware of the "quiverfull" movement? It's named after a line in Psalm 127 and calls for having lots of children. The Duggars have not identified themselves as adherents to the Quiverfull philosophy, but they live like they are. In reality, the movement is horrific. You've got the older kids raising the younger ones--they admit to this. They eat the cheapest crap in the fucking world because they have to, which means there are nineteen to twenty kids (or however many they finish with) who are walking physiological time bombs, and who have been raised to think having a ton of kids is the right thing to do.

When the Bible was written, you needed to have 20 kids if you wanted a couple to survive to sexual maturity. In the 1800s, you needed 10 kids if you lived on a farm because farms rely on lots of manual labor. In the 21st century, 18 kids or whatever they have this year is nothing but a burden on our environment.

Besides, if we stopped picking on the Duggars (and the other quiverfulls) for overpopulating the earth, and the SUV drivers for consuming more than their fair share of resources, and everyone else who has the "right" to do what they want, what would be our moral right to castigate credit card companies who run up interest rates based on you paying your water bill late? Don't they have the right to do this?

36. And every single one is a tax deduction
Oh noes! The Welfare King and Queen!!!

Lets see... 18 kids and two parents equals 20.

20x$3,400=$68,000 on line 26 of your 1040 form.

So in 2009 he'll be able to deduct at least $68,000 from his income for tax purposes.

Sigh. And somehow the Duggars are never the problem... a mythical, fictional non-white unmarried woman with several kids and a Cadillac are.

Well, at least the wide-angle camera lens jokes make themselves.

If only everybody was apathetic, then nobody would care.

Trouble is, nobody cares - which is why disease transmission and unplanned pregnancies seem to increase.

As I choose not to bother, why should I care? Good question, that one...

59. OMG...Do you hear yourself? Why should we condemn their life choice
when so many of the rest of us are fighting for the right to choose our own partners and life choices about children. Shouldn't we all have freedom of "CHOICE?" They don't seem to have done anything except be poster folks for the RW'ers and yet their kids seem healthy and well clothed and not in trouble. Why go at them? Sarah Palin's lifestyle is much more worthy of scrutiny because she apparently has a couple of kids who've had some problems that the RW should REALLY be worried about.

Do the Duggars have a pregnant teen who is unmarried? Did any of their sons apparently screw up so bad they had to go to Iraq and were made a hero?

I don't know. I haven't seen anything about the Duggar kids, YET, that says there's any reason to question how they are being raised. Maybe I missed it...because I don't obsess over a women who decides to have a lot of children just because it was her choice and they seem to be able to care for them....so far.

Seventeen children was not unheard of (give or take many miscarriages and early deaths from illnesses)from the earlies days of humankind history. I just don't get the big deal over this from DU'ers that I respect....

that having lots of kids means they are automatically doomed? That there will always be a percentage of "fuck ups?" I've seem families with two or three kids or even one...that the kids are fucked up. Maybe it's just something in the kids and their choices. Why blame the parents unless there's evidence of neglect or child abuse? The families I've known where parents I wish I had had...because my parents were not Ozzy and Harriet, either and despite that I'm here on DU :D :sarcasm: alert...I turned out okay...inspite of some scars I had to work around.

81. I am only speaking from my own experience
My Paternal Grandmother had 14 children but they were spread out through thirty years. Pretty amazing that!

My parents had one after another, there are not even 11 months between my sister and I. My parents both worked full time and it was simply impossible to give individual attention to each child no matter how hard they tried. And believe me they tried. I am simply saying that this is a pretty unrealistic situation for this family if they are hoping for well rounded children. I suspect that is not their aim given their extremest views. They appear to just want to do 'God's Will' and reproduce, nothing more. Except perhaps to make a few bucks off of it.

That's my very inexpert opinion. :) I stumbled upon this show once a couple years ago and couldn't tear my eyes away I was so fascinated/repulsed. She gives a lot of attention to the youngest one, but the rest are left to be raised by the older children.

Anyway, I have a personal moral issue with bringing in so many children into the world when there are so many kids that are waiting to be adopted (non-white babies, kids with problems, older kids). So I stay away from Jon & Kate plus 8 and the Duggars. It may be their choice, but it's my choice not to watch it or give money to their advertisers.
