Canadian PM to address country tonight regarding political instability
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/12/03/jean-crisis.html

This outta be good. What I want to know is; Is Harper addressing us as PM, or as the Conservative party leader? ANd if so, is he paying for this?

1. Pssst. No one cares about Canada
Or their 2 million barrels per day of oil imports to the US.

2. Yeah, it would appear so.... in that case we'll just become a closed state
And the USA can buy water, trees, oil, electricity and such elsewhere.

6. The sad fact is...
The US goes to war (covert and overt) for resources, mostly with small countries incapable of defending themselves, aside from the zealous fundamentalist that live there. Yet, when it comes to a country that willingly is their main oil importer (as well as a major trader in a variety of other resources), they can give two shits. Quite sad. Would that change tune if they entered exclusive contracts to sell their resources to China? I would think so.

8. Minority Government 101: Play Nice or Die
Harper was trying to run a Minority Government like Bush circa 2002, which was just plain suicidal.

11. Well, it IS nice to see Harper gone
But I don't know if I like how it's been done. I find it a bit un-nerving that a coalition with less seats than another party can be the government simply because a third party promises not to vote against them. Politics aside, I hope the Governor General says the BQ has to officially join the coalition in order for them to take power. Otherwise, we go to an election. We don't need that right now.

15. So, the coalition might be formed with the BQ taking part or
not taking part in it?

What impact does that have in either direction?

Since it would be a coalition, does this mean the NDP would have a major role in decision making or just more input?

It would be nice to see Harper booted. Would the new configuration lend itself to mischief making from the Conservatives still there as a strong minority or would that not be an issue?

21. Under this deal, the Libs and NDP become effectivly one party
Six NDP MPS would get cabinet positions. The Bloc's part is to just promise not to vote against them in anything. If the bloc votes against them for any reason then the coalition falls ans we're back to square one.

The cons can still do some damage, but not much.

16. He probably will
That's Harper's modus operandi. He despises his political opposition, and the Conservative Party's Karl Rove (Yep, they have one) said his goal was to destroy the main opposition party. Democracy means about as much to these guys as it does to Bu$h.

17. Hmm - I guess his 'strengthened mandate' should've included an allied party
since his 'mandate' got less than 38% of the vote. If he didn't want 'instability', then he should have done a deal with one or more parties to form a majority coalition. He has only himself to blame.

24. Harper played fast and loose with his aggressive style....
and he's paying for it now. He made some terrible policy decisions thinking the the opposition parties would take it and he was very wrong. He was on a vendetta to screw with them and it didn't work. He's the leader of a minority but he still thought he could bully the opposition.
He's got that I'll do what I want and damn the consequences demeanor that Chimp Boy is famous for.

28. Mr. Harper, I believe your pants might be on fire.
Also, you are totally creepy when you are trying to be smiley and affable. Seriously, I'd stick to stern and grumpy if I were you.

The collective reaction from the talking heads seems to be "Is that all? Dude we were kind of expecting you to, like, say something."
