Fundies: "Will homosexuals silence America's Christians?"
:freak:

from the increasingly insane OneNewsNow, news service of the perpetually insane American Family Association:

Will homosexuals silence America's Christians?
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 12/1/2008 5:30:00 AM

With Brazil's government caving in to homosexual activism, many fear America is not far behind.

Brazilian activists have launched several lawsuits to silence Christian opposition of homosexuality, and a Christian author has been both censored and fined over comments in his book. Mat Barber, with Liberty Counsel, believes America will likely follow suit.

"It's really chilling, and people need to be aware that this is not a threat that is isolated to Brazil or Europe or Canada," he contends. "It's coming to our shores (America) as well."

LifeSiteNews.com reports the Brazilian Association of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Transgender People (ABGLT) filed a criminal complaint against several websites for exposing their societal leader Luiz Mott's promotion of pedophilia and other illegal sexual acts. Barber explains he has witnessed homosexuals seeking to legally silence Christians and notes similar governmental legislation will be reviewed in Washington in January.

"Hate crimes legislation, the Employment Non-discrimination act -- legislation that under a President Barack Obama and with liberals in control of the House and the Senate, we can expect to see passed," he says.

Barber cites Colorado as an example that some states already have similar laws in place. "Governor Ritter signed into law a bill that says it is essentially illegal to write anything that's homophobic," he adds. "So based on that law in Colorado now, to actually publish the Bible would be considered a violation of the law."

Of course, when your message doesn't amount to "hate teh gay," it's pretty easy to stick with that "serve one another in love" thingie.

-Person A is a bigot.
-Person B is a bigot.
-Person A bases their bigotry on fear of what they don't understand.
-Person B bases their bigotry on their religion.
-Legislature C decides that the bigotry expressed by A and B is wrong and makes it illegal.
-Person A decries the law as removing their right to express their bigotry.
-Person B decries the law as outlawing their religion in its entirety and accuses the victims of their bigotry of conspiring against B's religion.

And when I say that, I'm only talking about Christians who have this kind of sense of entitlement. They think they're entitled to discriminate, and if they can't discriminate, they're being "silenced." Oh please.

Yes, I know there are many, many Christians who are not like that.

28. Homosexuals made this Christian noisier.
Those Christians who would deny ordinary civil rights to gay people should crawl back to the slimy rocks they live under and seek their repentance in silence, maybe starting with the Ten Commandments, most especially:

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

That happily married gay couple who moved into the house next door got your knickers in a knot? Bite your tongue, shut up, and celebrate their love for one another as you would any other marriage.

And yeah, there are kids in school who have two moms, or two dads, and that's a normal human relationship and a whole lot better than having miserable parents in a miserable marriage where one of the partners is pretending to be straight, like this guy maybe:

Ted Haggard and his wife, Gayle.

34. oh, well as long as it's from the Liberty Counsel, it must be true.
:sarcasm: and

.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Counsel
Liberty Counsel
Liberty Counsel is a non-profit public interest law firm and ministry that provides free legal assistance in defense of Christian religious liberty, the sanctity of human life, and the traditional family.<1> Liberty Counsel is headed by attorney Mathew D. Staver, who founded the legal ministry in 1989 and currently serves as its Chairman. Before entering the law, Mat Staver was a Christian minister and pastor of Seventh Day Adventist Churches. Anita L. Staver, his wife, serves as President of Liberty Council.

A close partnership exists between Liberty University, its newly formed Jesse Helms School of Law, and Liberty Counsel. Liberty University was founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell and Mat Staver serves as the law school's Dean.<1>

In 2006 Liberty Counsel's payroll was taken over by Liberty University/Falwell Ministries and Liberty Counsel became Jerry Falwell's in-house religious liberties advocacy group.

The Liberty Counsel has been criticized for "intolerant" and "excessive" tactics in pursuit of their causes<11>, including threatening legal action over a pro-literacy school activity involving Harry Potter books.<12> The organization is generally regarded as subscribing to the controversial Dominionism worldview, whereas Biblical law is believed to be both the inspiration for and supreme to the Constitution and other written laws in the United States.

In December 2005, Liberty Counsel issued a press release accusing an elementary school in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, of changing the lyrics of Christmas songs to make them more "secular" and threatened to sue the school district "if the district does not immediately remedy the situation."<13> In fact, the school was putting on the play "The Little Tree’s Christmas Gift," written by Dwight Elrich, a former church choir director.<14> The Dodgeville school district attempted to seek a retraction and apology from Liberty Counsel, as well as reimbursement of $20,000 spent in personnel, security and attorney fees to fight the baseless accusation. Liberty Counsel's Staver refused, asserting, "There is nothing to apologize for or retract."<15>

California Supreme Court to hear challenges to gay-marriage ban
Opponents argue that the ballot initiative amounts to a revision of the state constitution.

"Since the amendment is silent as to the judiciary, or any other branch of government, there cannot be any effect on the role and constitutional responsibilities of the respective branches," reads a court brief submitted by the Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit legal group opposed to same-sex marriage.

Furthermore, the brief argues, overturning Proposition 8 would trample the "people's right to amend the Constitution."

Religious Right groups have a specific set of goals for American life. They speak openly of “taking back” America, of asserting control over the lives of every single citizen. They have an agenda, and they want action on it.
http://www.au.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=8255&news_iv_ctrl=0&abbr=cs_

Fundamentalist religion, (Either New Age, Christian, or whatever) are social phenomena caused by the stress of social, political, and economic change. Both groups in the theological sense are mortal enemies, but in practical reality are much the same. Both reject the modern world and the use of science and logic. They feel helpless, vulnerable, and their lives have no meaning. They operate on emotion.

Christianity: The belief that a jewish carpenter who died 2000 years ago is your master and you must worship him because there is an evil spirit that is present within humanity because thousands of years ago a woman, who was created from a man's rib was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

53. It's not that they need to shut up...
It's that they need to quiet down and learn about their religion before htye show themselves to be idiots. For example!

Barber cites Colorado as an example that some states already have similar laws in place. "Governor Ritter signed into law a bill that says it is essentially illegal to write anything that's homophobic," he adds. "So based on that law in Colorado now, to actually publish the Bible would be considered a violation of the law."

The bible doesn't have any homophobia in it. In fact the closest the book comes to talking about homosexuality is a single rule declaring that levite priests should not engage in ritual prostitution with either sex.

54. Christians? No. People who wrap themselves in a faux mantle of
"religion" in order to spew hatred and twist others to their demands and use God and/or Jesus' name to do so, possibly.

We'll see how it plays out.

Perhaps more and more people will finally realize that people who vomit hatred out of their mouth and call it "religion" or "religious freedom" are nothing more than, to use their own nomenclature, Satan's deluded minions spreading Satan's message. Or, to use different words, perhaps people will now realize that those who do such are severely mentally ill and need help for their cancerous beliefs.

And, yeah, I apply those same (and perhaps higher) standards to those "religious" leaders who cynically use their power within their respective hierarchies to peddle their snake-oil version of "gawd's word" and "religion" and attempt to influence our government and the wider "society."

61. Maybe they should silence themselves and do some reading.
You know, read the Gospels where Jesus Himself said not to judge others and to instead love our neighbors as ourselves.

One way to shut them the hell up is to call and talk with their PR chick and ask her how their Biblical "proof" against homosexuality is stronger than the Biblical "proof" against slavery. The church that Dobson's church came out of is an abolition church--and yet, there's even a book in the New Testament all about slavery, the Book of Philemon, a letter from St. Paul to a slave telling him that being a better slave is how to be a better Christian. If Christians could see the evils in slavery a couple hundred years ago, then why the hell can't these idiots see the evil in what they're doing now to our LBGT brothers and sisters?
