Kathleen Parker: God has killed the GOP
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/18/AR2008111802886.html?nav=hcmodule

As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.
This Story

Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.

I'm bathing in holy water as I type.

To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.

Simply put: Armband religion is killing the Republican Party. And, the truth -- as long as we're setting ourselves free -- is that if one were to eavesdrop on private conversations among the party intelligentsia, one would hear precisely that.

3. It really was GOD
I recall Palin prattling on about how God would do what was right and would see to it that she and John McCain would be elected. So now either God got it wrong (or was too busy deciding what football teams were going to win that week) or he really did get it right and thought McCain/Palin was the wrong answer to our problems.

7. I want to see lightening, or walls falling after trumpets sound, or plagues.
Otherwise I'm not convinced.

8. Too little, too late from her.
She was just singing the fundies' praises not that long ago, including Palin when she was first nominated. Where in the hell has she been for the past eight years? Talk about an opportunistic conversion.

11. The Republican party
used to be much more socially liberal. Eisenhower and Nixon were hardly fundie kissing whackjobs. I remember when Kennedy ran for President. The Republicans were concerned that he would bring too much religion to government.

Now in order to be the Republican nominee you have to promise to bring too much religion into government. How the GOP will extricate itself from these idiots is yet to be seen. Bible Spice will be back in 2012 unless she gets run over by a moose.

13. If Kathleen is a Republican

And has been for the last 20-25 years, then an AH SHADDAP is in order here.

You played along as they consumed your party. Now it's THEIR fault?

The John Carradine as Aaron defense will not suffice.

This has been your doing. Blame yourself.
