The recent RW attack at NBC et al.
It was just a few months ago that ABC news and Brian Ross specifically were enemy #1 of the RW noise machine for breaking the Mark Foley story.

Recently NBC has been the target.

Cheney was obsessed with Hardball’s coverage–Updated
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/01/25/cheney-was-obsessed-with-hardballs-coverage/

This is pretty exposive testimony. Cathie Martin, (worked at the OVP under Mary Matalin) testified today that Cheney was totally obsessed with Chris Matthews and "Hardball," because they were taking Joe Wilson so seriously. Cheney's staff were cutting up clips and transcripts and passing them out to track what was being said on the show regarding Joe Wilson. Cheney also wrote up talking points for Ari Fliescher to answer questions from the press regarding Wilson's column in the NY Times.

Update: Here's David Shuster's report from Hardball

From the right. OTB writes:

Her testimony makes it clear that by July 7, 2003–a week before the publication of Bob Novak’s article made “Valerie Plame” a household name–the Office of the Vice President was obsessed with press accounts of an ambassador’s trip to Niger and that the vice president and Libby were intimately and repeatedly involved in trying to manage the spin on the story.

emptywheel has a blow by blow account.

1. I wouldn't call 2003 recent.

2. Didn't O'Reilly say that NBC News was our biggest problem
when he appeared on Colbert?

3. YEP!
that has more to do with Olbermann taking him on but then Bill is probably trying to get into the RW publishing circle and their bulkbuying.

4. Well, I admit to watching NBC more than anyone else lately...
MSNBC of course (yay Olbermann!!!), but even the NBC Nightly news...

Believe me, I understand that they are owned by GE, one of the major defense contractors...and yes, they were probably the worst cheerleaders for the war back when Brokaw still was anchor...

But, I've seen some improvement with Brian WIlliams...I still don't trust him, but I think Katrina put a whammy on his head...NBC has amazingly heavy interviews with family members of dead soldiers in Iraq (one last night was devastating...). They actually lead with stories that matter lately...I don't know what's up here...I understand Welsh freaking when they called the election for Gore back in 2000 and all, but I think Williams is TRYING within the constraints of MSM to get some truth across...

And that's from a VERY jaded rare viewer of the MSM...

6. In today's market, Brian Williams is the best
I am a great fan of his ever since he promised the people of New Orleans that he would not forget them or allow the country to forget them. And, he has kept his word, doing New Orleans stories at least weekly, even when the other networks will not.

His nightly news has a decidedly liberal (factual) bent. It is the only news show that seems to peruse the internet and pick up stories before they make other network's news shows. You know how we read stories on the internet days before the MSM picks them up? Well, Brian Williams is always on top of those stories. Yeah, sometimes he has a RW-slanted story, but mostly, he presents objective, factual, topical stories.

If you swore off of network nightly news, you can safely come back to NBC....for now.

5. They're going to be taking a second shot at ABC
Anyone catch Nightline last night? I caught just the tail end of the last half and they were (apparently) doing a story on how untrue political smears get started. Tuned in just in time to see them airing John Gibson and other Faux mouthpieces pushing the Obama lie. Then, a well-known AEI scholar (whose name is on the tip of my tongue! :coffee: ) lists the 'network' members of how it gets picked up and becomes "news".

7. Oh yes, I saw that.
I sat there in stunned amazement afterwards. Jake Tapper showed exactly how they do it. I just wish the media would have done something like this years ago.
