I'm also interested in other ways to help the GLBT community with discrimination. I'm sorry if these questions are poorly worded. Emotions are running so high I don't want to offend anyone, just want to help with donations to specific groups, activism, whatever. TIA.

1. Attend the National Day of protest next Saturday at your local city hall
Knock on your neighbors doors and invite them to be part of - open up a dialog with everyone you know about equal treatment under the law... talk about it to EVERYONE.

3. Difficult, in fact.

You have to change the way people think. People don't like being told what to think.

The prejudices that result in homophobia aren't necessarily rational and the only solution to prejudice is for the person being prejudiced to start thinking more rationally. As someone else said (and a well said thing it was, in my view) on this site a few days ago, you can't reason someone out of a position that they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

I suspect the best bet for lasting change is a dialogue that reveals the fact that a lot of the people voting against gay marriage have in fact been being told what to think. Not so easy, as those who have been doing the telling have been shoring up their ideology in the hearts and minds of their targets with exactly that criticism, aimed at us. It's an extremely effective defense.

Also, I suspect one of the best routes to establishing marriage equality is getting the churches that *do* support it to turn up the volume.
