Prop 8 Y:53% N:47%
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:42 AM by dubeskin
It's disappointing, and apparently Yes is celebrating already. 59% of the precincts have reported already. Think it will be possible to pull it off and have the Prop fail?

2. From exit polls there is a chance
and if it passes, I suspect this will end up at the USSC SOON... either or from both Florida and California

4. Part of me hopes it would take a while
Just long enough to get another Justice in there on the SCOTUS so that chances are better.

5. CA's liberal reputation is not entirely deserved.
I used to live in Orange County, and it is the most right-wing cesspool I have ever encountered.

11. Agreed. Placer here. Most of the liberal voting comes from the
Pacific-bordering counties as well as those around the big cities, like San Diego, LA, San Francisco, and sometimes Sacramento. The large conservative portions reside in the rural areas in the rest of the state, although they aren't as heavily populated.

30. SD city is liberal/moderate.
The rest of the county is quite conservative. Also keep in mind the large Hispanic population that tends to be socially traditional and conservative will have voted for the amendment.

To be honest, I expected this kind of bullcrap in Texas, not in California. Religion, social ignorance, and an anachronistic Dark Ages mindset are holding back the progress of our society.

9. Disgusting...
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:39 AM by Downtown Hound
I'm ashamed to be a Californian today. Yes we went for Obama but everyone knew that we would. If this passes, and it looks like it might, then we failed the real test. At least my county, Sonoma, was one of the ones that went NO.

To all my gay and Lesbian brothers and sisters: we will not stop fighting for you. Look at who we elected president today. Not too long ago, people with his skin color couldn't vote. One day you will have full equality. I'm just so sorry that it may not be today.

But here's to hoping that we could still pull it off.

As goes the rumor. Yes, disgusting.

I guess this is more unexpected than Obama winning. Unfortunately Im a bit more emotional about it too.

27. My wife and I were thinking the same thing
We are proud to be Americans because we have seen the beginnings of the end race as an obstacle. We are ashamed that our state could allow such a discriminatory and hateful proposition to be put on the ballot.

10. Win or lose - the NO ON 8 Campaigned SUCKED
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:39 AM by phrenzy
I can't believe the ineffectual and abstract ads they ran. While the YES on 8 nuts were running 'people' oriented ads, NO ON 8 kept running pictures of politicians and dry quotes. That doesn't work. Where the hell was Ellen? Where was George Takei? They should have fucking humanized this issue.

I hope to god we will defeat 8, but it will be no thanks to their ad campaign.

17. Where was the Democratic party?! It's not "No on 8"s fault.
Q: How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

A: The same as the number of Democrats who can equivocate 2 positions on gay civil rights.

That's a lot. A hell of a lot.

13. Weirdest result of the CNN exit polls
They had black women backing Prop 8 by 74% to 26% Anybody "No on 8" campaigners see signs of that as you campaigned? If so, any theories as to what was up with that?

I'd think they of all people would know about discrimination and blocking of rights.

Yes, I saw several black Yes on 8 supporters.

14. I suppose this means that a lot of Dems voted Yes
which is supremely disappointing to me.

We still have a lot of work to do on this issue. With Obama in the WH, can we now turn our attention to something like BASIC CIVIL RIGHTS?

26. I'm so sorry...
I would really like to know what happened here. When the Prop first hit the ballot, it was losing by a fairly comfortable margin. Then the money poured into the Yes campaign, and it seemed like the No campaign didn't get mobilized until it was too late. That's my persepctive, anyway.

Did we take for granted that it would just lose, because it's so obviously wrong? Perhaps.

If I could go back in time, I would work 10x as hard and donate 10x as much money. I feel like California let down a lot of people tonight, and not just in this state.

I'm so sorry.

That means that we will cost the elections in 2012, according to a lot of DU'ers.

Basically it means keep our mouths shut and be thankful for the scraps we're given.
