It's about Afghanistan and he resurgent Taliban. Chilling.

We need to get out of there. It is going to be longer and worse than Iraq.

1. If you want "deep background" on Afghanistan, read Michener's Caravans.
It's an old book & it's been many years since I read it, but I promise it will give you an invaluable perspective on that amazing region. One of the things Michener points out is the degree to which they are a warrior culture. For centuries, somebody has always been trying to invade them: the Indians, the Russians, the English...and they are always at war. During those brief moments when they lack a supply of foreign invaders to fight, they turn on each other.

You know about the Hindu Kush mountains--the name translates as "Hindu Killer," because that's where they always defeated the invading Indians. They view the mountains as an ally, an "Indian Killer."

2. They can wait out any invader.
Regroup in the mountains, let the enemy fell like they are winning, and then come back worse than ever.

Thanks for the recommendation.

3. My 19 year old godson is deployed in the mountains of the Korengal valley.
Since he has been there in July he has already been involved in more than one memorial service. Afghanistan is the place where superpowers go to be brought to their knees. I hope Obama realizes this and has us out of there before 2012. Afghanistan is a trap.
