“I don’t want to just win this election. I want to crush them,”
October 31, 2008

Lebanon Daily News

ANNVILLE — Gov. Ed Rendell took to the stage of Lebanon Valley College’s Miller Chapel last night as part of a final, weeklong effort to get out the vote for Sen. Barack Obama in Pennsylvania.

In a 40-minute address, Rendell urged supporters to not take Obama’s current lead in state polls for granted and criticized Sen. John McCain for running “one of the most despicable, dirtiest campaigns in American history.”

“I don’t want to just win this election. I want to crush them,” Rendell told a crowd of around 500 students, faculty and community members.

The two-term governor used his delivery to counter recent attacks by the McCain campaign and to stress the importance of convincing undecided voters to vote on Tuesday.

“I think we’ve got our work cut out for us,” Rendell said. “It means getting out every sure Obama voter. It means talking to your classmates and your friends and your family and saying, ‘I don’t care if it’s raining on Election Day; you’re getting your umbrella, and you’re going out to vote. I don’t care how long the lines are; you’re going to stay in line, and you’re going to vote.’”

2. A good campaign makes your opponent wish s/he had not run, a great campaign
makes your opponent wish s/he had never been born.

You want them considering a bullet to their head on election night.

5. All things considered
I would be very surprised if McCain did not retire from the Senate in the near future.

7. I've got new respect for Rendell going on here.
He sounds like a football coach, and that's exactly what will work for Western PA (where I grew up). Big hug for Ed!

9. Me too
I liked him a lot as Philly mayor -- not so much as governor. But his attitude during this campaign has given me a lot of confidence that the GOP won't get away with any funny business here.

12. I would like to see the last 8 years of ChimpCo repudiated as strongly as possible
I don't just want Obama to win. I want this to be a statement rejecting Bush for all the harm he's done. I want people to look back on this election as the day the American people woke up and smelled the strench coming from the rotting corpse of Bush-style Republicanism.
