'D.C. Madam' Ordered Not to Sell 'Little Black Book' to Media

Published: March 16, 2007 10:30 PM ET

WASHINGTON A federal judge ruled Friday that a former escort service owner cannot sell phone records and other documents that could be used to publicly identify thousands of her clients. Her lawyer said, however, that she may give it for free to one of the many interested media outlets -- and perhaps she has already done this.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 50, has said she planned to sell the list of up to 15,000 client phone numbers and other records to a news organization to help raise money for her defense. The alleged "D.C. Madam" ran Pamela Martin and Associates, an upscale escort service in the Washington area, for 13 years before it closed in August.

Palfrey's civil attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, said Friday he does not believe the judge's order bars him from distributing copies of the phone records for free.

In any event, Sibley said it's a moot point because he has already given copies of the records to an undisclosed news organization.

2. On what basis can the judge make this ruling?
If the credit rating companies can sell the same information on the open market, why can't she?

4. Judge Gladys Kessler?

I suppose it's possible, but unlikely.

The fact is, this woman's assets have been seized by the government - she doesn't have the right to sell them as they are not legally in her possession.

9. OK, so tell me HOW a judge
can tell me I can't sell something that I own? If it's mine, it's mine. Oh silly me....that was the old America until * took office.

So she can't sell it, can she 'give' it to others? And I'm sure if she did and the 'judge' came for it, a copy or two might just disappear and show up somewhere else.....I mean after all, if the neocons can do it, why can't the average person do it?

She wasn't real smart with this tho, she shoulda contacted an overseas paper and had them break the story with names in her book. I am sure this wasn't a 'surprise' arrest and she knew they were 'watching' her every move. I mean if I had a black book that would cause 'damage' to this admin, there sure as hell wouldn't be just one copy to begin with and I damn sure would make another copy existed across the world somewhere with instructions it be immediately opened and exposed upon my arrest or death, whichever would come first.

including this list, have been confiscated by the government. She doesn't "own" them at the moment.

11. since she is not accused of anything to do with the book I dont understand what
business it is of a federal judge to prohibit her from doing whatever she wants with it.

phone records and lists are being sold every day in this country, its obviously legal to do so, the information is obviously hers.

this ruling serves only to protect those who might be implicated and recall accused johns names are published in papers and online routinely by local authorities.
