8. Bwahahaha! DUzy for sure!

That said, I think this is fake or an RC plane. That little "hop" to get back on ground doesn't seem possible given the weight of a real plane.

7. I believe this is not real but computer-generated.
I have an eye for this sort of thing. It's not what happens- its the lighting, the reflections off the surfaces and the behavior of the objects.

I'm inclined to believe you...the more I view it the less I think it could be done.
I have about 10000 hours of flying and pretty sure no acrobatic pilot would stay with a one-winged plane.

19. I'm definitely no pilot, but these acrobatic planes are all engine so...
...it does look realistic (to my untrained eye) the way he takes it down and almost flies it like a helicopter, nose up. Some things I spotted, along with the lighting which is good but far from perfect- no puff of fuel as the lines break when the wings come off, the smoke trailing out of the plane looks like a 2-dimensional overlay and does not reappear (diffusing) in any of the other shots, and at about 47 seconds in it becomes much easier to spot that its CGI because of the reflections and the poor modeling of physics when the plane tail-bumps and comes to a halt.

20. Yep that's another thing I didn't even mention. The inertia and accelerations are all wrong.
They're about what would be expected for a very low mass, like a model (or maybe a computer sim - I don't know much about that but I do know aerodynamics) :-)

22. You might see my reply #21, looks like the CGI was based off of this.
If not, it's definitely a case of life imitating art. Or is that the other way around?

:)

12. I've been in similar situations with my RC planes.
I've never had a wing fall off though.

Of course recovery never meant the difference between life and death. Great flying dude!

17. It's Not A Fake Because It Can't Be Done.
It's a fake because the animation near the end is a dead giveaway. The physics of the plane actually touching down is way, way off. I was in awe myself until the plane actually landed.

Plane Loses Wing In Mid Flight

Even though it's computer-generated, one could conceivably survive an accident like this- but only in a stunt plane which has a much stronger engine than similar commercial or private aircraft. I encourage you to check out some of the stunt flying videos, many of these airplanes can actually point nose-up and hover (like a helicopter) the engine is so powerful.

Cheers!

25. I don't think any fixed wing plane has a thrust to weight ratio greater than 1.0
(prop driven at least...not any I've heard of anyway except the Osprey...sort of)

23. Fake
Nice blending of different imaging techniques, though.

The last portion where the pilot suddenly levels the plane before landing is the part that dooms it as fake.

And, yes, I'm a licensed pilot. But you don't need to be a pilot to recognize trickery.

26. They did throw in some nice touches, though. The guy running out at...
...the end was probably real and composited in. Also the audio is great! The Australian accent and everything. The walkie talkie chatter, the wind buffeting the "video camera" mic. Really sweet work. But they probably didn't storyboard out the last 20 seconds very well, especially the physics and aerodynamics of the event. It still would have probably looked fake- when you spend alot of time looking at CGI it's hard not to spot something fishy in a video like this.

Cheers!

28. yep
and if nothing else, the fact that the plane didn't lean over to the side that still had a wing after coming to a stop certainly gave it away, if you take the other wing off, the difference in weight from one side to the other is probably going to put the wing tip on the ground.
