I just saw "Pan's Labyrinth" .
it's a must see. It's very brutal, but a great film. The story takes place in Fascist Spain in 1944.

2. Between "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "The Last King of Scotland" last week...
I'm gonna have to wait a while before I see another brutal movie. I'm sure this one is good though. Thanks for the review

8. I saw it a couple of months ago
I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It was beautifully done, but very dark. Not a happy fairy tale indeed. The problem I'm having with it, aside from the senseless violence (to match a senseless war) is that I can find no moral to the story. I suppose one could take away something about the brutal realities of war versus the fantasy we concoct for ourselves involving glory and valor but I don't know. Any suggestions?

4. Del Toro was on NPR Fresh Air and I was so impressed with his responses
...and comments. The hostess forget her name, but she really showed just how sheltered a lefe she has led. Everything Del Toro said shocked her. Some of the things he lived shocked me also, but what a life, no one hour show could even scratch the surface.

5. Very intriguing film
I really appreciate any film that isn't a by the numbers Hollywood formula. Dark, but lovely. The young actress is exquisite.

6. Del Toro even puts his stamp on mainstream stuff
Blade 2 was the best of the series and Hellboy is a really fun ride. Cronos was my first taste of this visionary.
