Obama and Guns - Educate Me
I'm pretty ignorant on what Obama's stances and past are concerning guns, and for the most part, I'm pretty apathetic, but I have a friend who only cares about the 2nd Amendment, and it would be nice to shove something down his throat.

Here's the website (from the NRA, natch) he sent me

2. I think you have to take Obama's past votes and statements in the context...
...of his position as a member of the Illinois Senate, representing an urban area with crime problems.

I hope he can apply a broader view to the subject should any proposed legislation reach his desk. But given the makeup of Congress, I doubt that any draconian restrictions or gun bans are going to make it out of committee in either house.

3. He is a sensible person...
so of course one of those gun owners is going to disagree with him.

5. I think I recall him saying something to the effect that
He supports a municipality or a state having gun laws that are appropriate for their needs.

6. Strictly from a gun rights perspective his record's not very good,
but then neither is McCain's. Maybe you can convince him to vote for Bob Barr.

7. Obama doesn't have much of a record unfortunately the Democratic Platform and Biden do.

8. Currently, he is pretty good except for his support of renewing the AWB

The NRA is making some premium hay from his anti-gun past while he was more involved with the Chicago and Illinois politics, but those positions are not particularly relevant.

For me, the real issue is his support of the so called Assault Weapons Ban. It contradicts his postions that "what works in Cheyene doesn't work in Chicago", support of the Heller SCOTUS decision, and firearms being an individual right.
