Bachmann: 'I made a big mistake' with 'Hardball' appearance
Associated Press

Article Last Updated: 10/21/2008 09:52:10 PM CDT

Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she regrets using the term "anti-American" while discussing Barack Obama's views.

Bachmann told the St. Cloud Times today that she "made a big mistake" by going on MSNBC's "Hardball" last week. During an interview with the Times' editorial board, she said: "I should not have used that phrase."

Her statement that Obama "may have anti-American views" drew condemnation and helped her opponent, Democrat El Tinklenberg, raise more than $1 million in just a few days.

Bachmann said she walked into a trap and did not bring up the term "anti-American."

Earlier in the day, she told St. Cloud Rotary Club members that she would like to "take back" the statement.

"I did not say that Barack Obama was anti-American, nor do I believe Barack Obama is anti-American. He loves his country, just as everyone in this room does," she told the crowd of 100. "Nor did I call for an investigation of members of Congress for their pro-American or anti-American views. That is not what I said."

Bachmann said that while she didn't question Obama's patriotism, "I'm very concerned about Barack Obama's views. I don't believe that socialism is a good thing for America." ......(more)

2. Following in the long tradition of Republicans ...
and forgetting that there is a thing called "video tape" that can, you know, be "replayed".

3. She's a liar and a pig.
She knew damn well what she was saying, and her apology is as transparent as glass.

5. Time For Some Shadow Boxing
She couldn't tap dance out of doing a flat denial...so now she's parsing the denial...and next will be denying the denial...in the end, leaving a pool of excuses out there to try to muddle anyone who tries to sort it out. She just hopes to mess it up enough so it goes away. But it won't.

The lady is totally tone-deaf. She was so used to an insular world where this crap is bantered about as everyday conversation...she didn't have the common sense to filter that out when she went on with Tweety. She took the talking points and thought she was pushing the ball...instead she was shooting off her own foot.

One of the biggest miscalculations this election year is how the corporate media could be rolled...like they had in the past. These goons have been trained to go on the offensive and intimidate...and for many years this tactic worked. But, ya know, I don't expect this is the end of Bachmann's flame out...she's too addicted to TV cameras, she just can't control herself.
