Menachem Begin was a leader of the Irgun, a terrorist group in pre-Israel Palestine that was responsible for the bombing of the King David Hotel in 1948 that killed 91 people. That's 91 people more than Ayers ever killed. Yet Ronald Reagan met with Begin when Begin was Israel's Prime Minister. Ronald Reagan palled around with Middle East terrorists!
In McCain's book, he wrote of Begin and Sadat: "They were warriors who unapologetically sanctioned violence in service to their causes. ... Both men had taken risks to fight for their countries, and both men perceived in the events of their time the moments when peace became possible and when it became their responsibility to take risks to achieve it." In other words, McCain called terrorists "warriors" and was willing to overlook terrorist activities in the Middle East, because Begin had evolved. According to Sarah Palin's rhetoric, this would make McCain a terrorist sympathizer.
I'm sure someone else has noted this... but I haven't heard this comparison made in the media. Have I just missed this?
