1. You know, Pickens might make a half decent Sec'y of Energy
but he wouldn't take the pay cut, I'll bet.

Does that sound like someone with any common sense?

2. Pickens is a shit
Lifelong rethug and funder of the Swift Boat 527.

I do, however, think that his energy plan makes sense. He leans a little heavy on drilling, perhaps, but his plan overall is sensible and sounds like it could work.

Why has neither candidate given recognition to the Pickens plan as a possible roadmap for their administration? Is there something in there that is a deal breaker for Obama? McCain?

It seems that public response to the Pickens plan has been largely positive. Unless there are some serious issues with the plan, I think it could be a boon to whichever candidate endorses it.

What say you?

15. I have heard the same BUT
he isn't doing it because of philanthropy...it is because he has seen that the days of oil men in caddy's is over and he plans on making a killing elsewhere.
Right thing. Wrong reasons.
You can still bet your ass that we will be paying the same prices.

3. I don't trust the guy.
When rich people say they're doing something for the good of the country, I get really suspicious.

4. This is the same fella who helped fund swiftboat ads against Kerry isn't it?
Whether or not he is, he has a rather shady past and I do not trust him. We can do better than this guy for energy policy.

5. He owns large investments in Gas
and will make a killing if gas is used. He also gave an interesting speech broadcast on MPR a couple of weeks ago. You might look it up and listen to it. He talks about plans he has drawn up for wind corridors and solar development areas as well as discusses Anwar, Alaska and shale oil extraction. He was not positive on Anwar or Alaska saying it would take too long and did not have enough there to merit addressing the needs but seemed to be "gas and alternative" and did give financial figures also. I found it informative but in reality I do not know for certain all his motives. If he is genuine about going alternative and footing some of the bill, I would be happy.

7. Some Dems drank his $Kool-Aid$ and are pushing it on the party. Most don't realize the vast stretch
of land for the windmills he wants us to subsidize also is on top of the US' largest aquifer, and the water underneath the land we'll have subsidized will be used as his personal powertool. Water wars will soon dwarf the oil wars. He'll be making billions AND will not be shy about wielding his power for his fascist ideology.

13. Didn't know about the water issue
but he would stand to make a killing from natural gas anyway.

After he said "I'll always be voting Republican, of course" in a CNBC interview I knew he was not only being disingenuous with the windmill hype, but a crappy politician as well.

10. He is big on compressed natural gas
He is big on the compressed natural gas, which he owns most of.
CNG will require people to convert their cars. Not cheap
CNG does not get good miles per gallon
The other problem is your car will run like crap with no power with the stuff.
People tried using CNG years ago and converted back because of this.

11. Okay, here's the deal with Pickens...
He's selling a network of wind turbines. Why? Not because of the wind. In order to build the network, he needs to be granted easements to the land underneath the power distribution lines. Once he has the land easements, he can then use the same land for his network of water distribution pipelines. Google it, baby. Pickens isn't an idiot. He is speculating that water will be the next oil, and he's positioning himself to be the big playa in the industry. He can cloak himself in this patriotic "energy independence" thing with the wind turbines, but he's really not interested in the wind as much as he is in the water rights. He's just a very shrewd, intelligent, calculating man. Which is why he's a billionaire and we're not.

money so he can make more money selling us overpriced gas and wind power. Wind power subsidized by us placed on aquifier land.?

Public funds for development and then private profit for pickens. That's his energy plan.

If he really wants to help the country that made all his success possible he can donate his land and money for development of wind energy.

That would be a good start.
