My sermon Sunday addressed the economic crisis and bailout package.
I really regret now not using the phrase "fucking greedy bastards" in the pulpit. Thanks for letting me get that out.

Cheers

1. But that would have been one sermon your parishioners would never have forgotten!

2. I don't believe a word of it
but I suspect I'd feel right at home in your church.

I'm glad to see mainstream clergy taking the fucking, greedy bastards on. Jesus would be pleased.

3. Hmmm, in a UU church I'm not sure I'd be considered mainstream clergy.
:)

7. You're a lot more mainstream than Palin is
You don't even have a cage full of snakes, for crying out loud!

11. That's only because I'm terrified of them.
Come to think of it though. I'd prefer a cage full of snakes to a cage full of Palins. Now THAT's the stuff of nightmares.

5. LOL! We usually record our sermons and put them on the church website in mp3...
but I couldn't trust myself this past Sunday and declined to bring the recording device with me. I was truly afraid I would say something that shouldn't be recorded for posterity.

6. I'll show you my notes with how I started....
The Tao of the Dow

I suppose the first thing I should do is explain my title since some of you may be wondering why the weird title. I’m going to break one of the cardinal rules of crafting a sermon and launch directly into a dictionary definition.

If you peek in the Random House Dictionary you’ll see Tao T-A-O defined as

· (in philosophical Taoism) that in virtue of which all things happen or exist.

· the rational basis of human activity or conduct.

· A universal, regarded as an ideal attained to a greater or lesser degree by those embodying it.

So coupled with Dow, D-O-W, as in Wall Street you can plainly see the title is something of an oxymoron. And that would be something of an understatement.

Not to suggest the mortgage companies and investment firms are run by morons. I do not question their intelligence at all. Their wisdom and values on the other hand are very much in question......and then I got nasty.

8. Personally, I'm a Deist, but I'd probably not stick out like a sore thumb in a Unitarian church.
Ds and Us go way back to the days of the American Revolution and the Enlightenment. Folks like Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson were Deists, and I had heard George Washington was a Unitarian.

9. Jefferson had lots of good things to say about Unitarianism
He was also good friends with Unitarian minister and scientist, Joseph Priestley.

I've never heard that Washington was a Unitarian.

10. Nope, GW wasn't a Unitarian. And neither was Jefferson although many UUs like to claim him.
Adams on the other hand was a Unitarian. Though he'd probably feel a bit uncomfortable in a UU church today.

Nope, you'd not stick out like a sore thumb at all. One of our long-time members just gave a sermon on Deism (his personal beliefs) and was met with a fair number of people saying, "Oh, so that's what I am!"
