Yes, he's annoyed. But is he also... compassionate?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, maybe it's just an unspoken "You pathetic old loser..."

But it really looks to me like he's feeling some real compassion for his opponent. As if he wants to go up to the guy, pat his shoulder and say, "Hey... John... Let it go. There's more important stuff, like your health and your family and being around for your grandkids. Chill, man. It'll work out."

Like... he cares about McCain on a human level even while he's utterly determined to defeat him politically.

I dunno... maybe I'm projecting here. But that's how it looks to me.
