I voted this morning and it felt so good.
This was the 14th time I voted for president - yes, I'm that old - and I have never, never felt so good about marking those ballots. Not just for Obabma but for Udall for senator and Teague for congressman. My guess is it felt so good because I felt like my vote was going to make a difference in the future of this country. I was voting for people who give me hope.

This was the first day for early voting and it was like a meeting of the local Senior Citizen's organization. I had to wait in line 30 minutes, and there were many, many more behind me. This is pretty much a Democratic County (went for Kerry in 2004) but the district transverses the state, bordering Texas to the East and South, and Arizona to the West. (Our outgoing representative is Steve Pearce.) As far as I can tell, the Hispanic population (who are in the majority) vote Dem and the Anglo ranchers Rep. I have no idea how most of the retirees (who are mostly Anglo) vote, but I see more cars with bumper stickers saying Bless the Whole World No Exceptions than bumper stickers saying God Bless America.

2. It doesn't start here until Oct. 21
and I have no idea why this county is such a foot dragger when it comes to early voting. I could always go to the county clerk's office, but it's a royal pain in the butt and a significant barrier to the partially disabled (me).

3. I voted early because I'll be on crutches on election day
I'm having surgery on my Achilles tendon Oct 15 and can't put any weight on it for four weeks. I had to vote at the county clerk's office but in a small town it's easy to get there.
