2. Apples been slashing prices....sales must be falling badly.
The little iPod shuffle used to be $80, now it's $50.

6. Yes, flash prices follow Moore's law and routinely drop.

7. I never wanted an ipod. They always seemed over priced. I have
a couple of music players I got on sale. Work great. No need for itunes or other proprietary software. And dirt cheap. Like a 2gig for 20$ I got from radio shack on clearance. Got several and gave them as xmas gifts last year.

Look for sales.

Also checkout http://www.anythingbutipod.com/ for reviews of alternatives. Ebay often has great cheap generics, but you better make sure you buy from a dealer with a high transaction count and high rating.

Amazon.com has some great deals too.

Like an 8 GB MP4/MP3 Player with FM Radio, Camera, Voice Recorder, USB Portable, and 2.8-inch Touchscreen for 65$.

For music I have itunes and have bought songs there, but I'm not in love with them. I have also bought music from amazon.com (not proprietary!)! And, I have tons of CDs of course.

Another interesting alternative, although maybe not cheaper is the wolverine HD music/video player...

8. For that price, I would rather get the Zune 120 GB
I think it's only $20 more than the 32GB iPod and the reviews are positive according to Amazon.

9. I have an old ipod
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 10:25 AM by PAVet4Murtha
that is 40gig and I’m on my third one, when the battery dies apple exchanges it for a refurbished one for $60.00, I listen to audible books on it constantly so I need something that is dependable and has enough space to hold a lot of books and the old ipod I have has been a work horse.

I plan on keeping my old ipod and use it in my car and get a newer mp3 player to use with ear buds when I’m out and about, I’ve also been looking at the zune 120 and it is getting some good reviews, I don’t mind spending more money on something I’m using all the time, I think it all averages out in the long term!

11. There's a vast difference in price (and performance) between flash-based players
and hard-disk-drive-based players.

You can't directly compare Zune and iPod
Touch prices.

12. I can!
The only ipod I like is the itouch 32gb and the only zune I like is the zune 120gb,granted they're different, but I think either one would suit my purposes and the one that has the lowest price compared to similar products when I'm ready to buy is the one I'll go with!

10. Sparkly bought a new iMac a few months ago and she got a free iPod Touch
I think the similar phones (iPhone) are cutting into the pure iPod sales is what is actually going on.
