Their plan to get bailout passed: As a last resort, add provisions to bill to help out Mid-Americans
from Americablog
http://www.americablog.com/2008/09/stephanopoulos-on-congress-options.html

Number One option: A do-over. Go back and twist GOPer arms to pass current version of revised bill.

Number Two option: Sen. Reid and GOPers in Senate are jonesing for this bill. Pass it there first thus putting pressure on the House

Number Three option: Get more GOPers to sign on by adding the nix of Mark to Market clause. Banks have junk on their books they can't sell and are whining about having to disclose the stuff as junk. GOPers agree.

Fourth and final option if everything else fails: Add programs to the bill which will create jobs in infrastructure and give funds to low income Americans who will actually spend it thus stimulating economy.

They hope like crazy they don't have to resort the the dreaded and unwanted fourth and final option.

1. Politicians are bottom feeders
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 05:41 AM by Uben
They look out for only one person....themselves! Re-election is first and foremost on their agenda, constituents come second.
I never send a dime to any politican, there are too many charities that need that money worse.

I think they are down to option four, now. The dems need to throw in middle-class protection and vital oversight clauses in a bill, and pass it themselves. After the fall-out from yesterday's vote, the republicans cannot afford to be seen as "bill killers" again.
This is a great opportunity for us wipe the floor woth their asses!

2. Forget the GOPers
for all the spin about GOPer concern about "main street" they are still clinging to trickle-down and leave no billionaire behind

To use an analogy: your basement is filling up with water, there's a hole in the foundation wall and the water is pouring from it. The $700b bailout is just pumping the water out of your basement and back into the yard. It doesn't stop the water from coming into the basement. For any bailout to be effective - you have to plug the hole first.

the hole in this case would be the housing market and resulting foreclosures. Put in provisions which would enable homeowners to keep their homes, renegotiating the terms to lower payments, or even a forebearance. The point being - you have to stop the water pouring into the basement.

Dems could take Obama's economic plan and put some of it into action to build a foundation.

As far as "selling" it - come out and say it - this is bush and repubs mess, they made the mess and have no idea how to clean it up, so once again it's up the Dems to do it. After Hoover, it took a Dem to clean it up, After bush-1 it took a Dem to clean it up, and now after bush-2 it's going to fall on the dems, once again, to do the clean up

3. Having the Bankruptcy Bill making it illegal to renegogiate mortgage
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 06:01 AM by Robbien
is something that gets no press. Everyone laments about the rising foreclosures but no one is saying anything about the fact that everyone's hands are tied. Mortgage terms and conditions cannot be renegotiated. Congress made that a law.

This also should be addressed.
