Dave to do rare Friday taping, wants to comment on VP debate
CBS has confirmed to TV Barn that David Letterman, newly energized by his insertion into the presidential race, has decided to break with his usual routine of taping his Friday show on Monday. (No, it's not you -- the jokes are awfully generic on Fridays.)

Instead, he will tape next Friday's show day and date, so that his writers can feed him jokes about the Thursday vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.

As I've argued recently, the things that late-night talk show hosts say have a way of working their way into the national political conversation in strange ways. Jay Leno was turning on Sarah Palin long before Katie Couric got at her, and Letterman's jilted-lover routine after John McCain blew him off last week was international news.

4. Or, put another way
In a totalitarian society, only the comedians get to utter the truth.

Everybody else gets punished for it, one way or another.

7. No, in an authoritarian society comedians can jest on serious matters.
In a totalitarian society only the rulers can make a few witticisms. Stalin's reamrk on revenge and Goering's joke (which backfired) that if Berlin was bombed people could call him "Meyer." Not that anyone ever did.

3. McLame is going to learn what the price is for treating Dave like a lightweight.

Good for Dave. And that debate should be a gold mine of laugh material.

5. I don't think Dave is mad because he was not treated with the same "gravitas" as Couric ...

... I think Dave is mad because McCain flat out lied to him.

You don't have to be the news anchor to be treated with simple decency.

I think the way McCain treated Dave is how he treats everyone who isn't John McCain.

He's a narcissist and no one else matters.

6. Yes.. Dave. But how about Jon?
How about a friday nite TDS?

I've been meaning to talk harshly to Jon about all these days off he's been taking. We NEED him, and on Friday we'll need him most!

It's not like it's hard to write the material... all he has to do is play the tapes and look out at the camera and say "Mmmmhhh?"

The Repubs write his damn show!

10. TDS and TCR may have to take Fridays off due to a contract with CC.
I have no way to verify this, but this is what I suspect.

Also, don't get too freaked out, but Rosh Hashanah is coming up soon, too (http://judaism.about.com/od/roshhashana/qt/when08rh.htm)

Perhaps Dr. Colbert will be getting a call on the Atone Phone from Bernanke?
