We all remember the rockin' 'Revolution' song by the Beatles, bless the Beatles and bless John Lennon the crazy rockin' hell raiser, 'but if you go carryin' pictures of chairman Mao, ya' ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow', and, 'but if you want money for people with minds that hate, all I can tell you is brother you'll have to wait', etc.
Lennon the Brit was writing a cautionary tune, the sixties were marked with quite a bit of street fighting and riots, and sit ins, and demonstrations protesting the war and there were more than a few crazy leftists who advocated a violent overthrow of the regime, and I believe Lennon was trying to quell some of that mixed in with the Beatles peace and love stuff.
But that was then. And this is now. Lennon may not ever have imagined someone like bush jr.
One of the first things that was driven into our young heads in American history class was that America was born of revolution. The Boston Tea Party with illustrations is burned in my brain, beautiful paintings of George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, battle scenes with American guerrillas fighting against uniformed British soldiers, drawings of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, revolution wasn't looked at as something dirty then, but it seems like it is now.
America's revolution in 1776 was indeed violent, as the rocket's red glare will attest, but history is replete with bloodless revolutions too. The Russians surrounded their seat of Communist power, (The White House is what they called it), 3 million men, women and children walked peacefully into the building and threw the commies out the back door, not a shot was fired, not a drop of blood spilled, and by Russian history's standards, it was downright miraculous.
Its easy to write a song about revolution. Its easy to sit at a computer keyboard and type the word revolution in a political forum, talk is cheap. But that doesn't mean that revolution isn't coming in one form or another, it may be in full swing and we just don't realize it yet. Revolution in America in the year 2009 won't look like the first one, or any other, this is a whole new world, and a whole new America is coming, a revolutionary change is coming, its up to we, the people to determine how it will manifest itself.
Revolution is in the Constitution, a document that the last president george pissed on, and the document that the first president George fought so hard to bring us.
Hey America, WHAT time is it?
