2. OMFG, that comes out to around $6,000+ that each person in Wasila had to pay for her as mayor.
That's ridiculous!

4. there are some cases, particularly in the south, that I think
politicians are underpaid, but 60 grand for a city of 9,000? That is way way too much, imho

6. it's only about $10 per person
you left out some zeros. 6,000 x 10 = $60,000
Which seems like a lot of money for such a small town.

7. I don't think that the residents pay enough taxes for that salary. I would
guess that it comes out of the federal earmarks. So, I guess you and I are helping to pay her $60,000 salary!

10. Sorry, but my guess was correct
According to Alaska's own department of labor, the avg. income is over $70K (the median and per capita are much lower, but still much better than the national average). See:

http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:MtnhnCMuhF8J:www.labor.state.ak.us/research/trends/nov05inc.pdf+average+income+in+Alaska&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

And according to this website http://www.payscale.com/research/US/State=Alaska/Salary
the avg. pay for a non-profit executive director in Alaska in $60K

So the numbers are not only right but normative.

9. Don't forget, she was a Mayor WITH a City Manager
The manager was brought in when she fucked up. The City Manager probably brought down about 75K per year. That is the average for a City that size in the Midwest, certainly. Of course, that doesn't take into account that you already have a part time mayor. 60K for a part time job is pretty freakin' good. Don;t forget she redecorated her office to the tune of 50K. :eyes:

AND chief administrator, each getting about $40,000 to $75,000. Am I just a total ignoramus or does it take that much salary/people to run a city of 9.000? I probably am just an ignoramus..
