Trucks loaded with ice (FINALLY) heading from Woodbine to victims of Ike

WOODBINE - The Sea Isle Ice Company doesn't usually get a rush of orders in the middle of September, but when Hurricane Ike pounded the Texas coast suddenly, the phone was ringing.

Texas needed ice and needed it fast. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies were footing the bill.

"We're sending truckloads of ice down to Houston, 50 so far. We're not sure yet how many it could be," said company owner Joseph Romano Jr. on Wednesday night.

"We did it with (Hurricane) Katrina. We have a picture of Laura Bush handing out ice at Katrina," Romano said.
