Palin Says She's in Favor of Teaching Creationism In Public Schools
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 12:41 AM by bigtree
In October of 2006, the Anchorage Daily News described Palin's positions on social issues in a lengthy profile:

"A significant part of Palin's base of support lies among social and Christian conservatives. Her positions on social issues emerged slowly during the campaign: on abortion (should be banned for anything other than saving the life of the mother), stem cell research (opposed), physician-assisted suicide (opposed), creationism (should be discussed in schools), state health benefits for same-sex partners (opposed, and supports a constitutional amendment to bar them)."

And earlier that year, the Anchorage Daily News reported that Palin said the following about creationism at a debate:

"Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information....Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. And you know, I say this too as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject -- creationism and evolution. It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides."

2. I was thinking the same thing.
The Flying Spaghetti Monster deserves at least as much consideration as the Creation story.

12. Teach both
the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. Let there be an open discussion on these issues. Let's teach "flat earth," too.

7. I taught seniors in HS....
for the last 10 years, and I can tell you that "discussions" about ID/creationism are the LAST thing the fundies want. If kids can discuss, that means they can crush, belittle, and mock as part of that discussion.

I wouldn't want that kind of discussion in my classroom.... too hard on the classroom dynamics.

8. I surrender
Let them have it, the whole kit n kaboodle. Let them start their endless wars for profit and outsource all our jobs and privatize everything from our military to the Post Office, Social Security, and the roads we drive to work on.

Let them eavesdrop on anyone they like, read our emails, "lose" databases filled with millions of people's private information, add political enemies and babies alike to the no-fly list, and strip search old women at the airport. After all, if you aren't doing anything wrong it won't happen to you.

Let them detain anyone they want at will, for whatever reason they choose, and torture them for the good of the country. Let them have their guns and their hate speech and their overturning of Roe vs Wade, and give them the bloody flag to wrap it all up in. Again, no one need worry as long as they're true Christian Patriots.

Let them teach creationism like it has something to do with science. Then let them pray for world-class scientists in 20 years.

Let them pray everywhere for good weather (or bad on their enemies), good health, new home-grown technologies, a thriving economy, endless oil and a two-garage McMansion. I'm sure God will oblige.

Give them what they want. In spades. They don't care about you and me, and they're going to take it all anyway. They'll lie, steal and cheat their way to their perfect country and feel perfectly justified in it. They'll even take it by force if necessary. Let them have it. Because that's the only way these raging lunatics will learn to be careful what they ask for.

I'm ready to leave it to them. I'm happy to go because this isn't my country anymore. Thank God there appears to be no shortage of idiots in this country, or I might have trouble selling a house in an area consumed by unemployment and an ocean of bankruptcies thanks to some of the policies they've put in place.

9. Bobby Jindal feels the same way.
Wants his children exposed to all the good info out there. If you want your kids to learn about religion, teach them yourself, or send them to a religious school.

13. Alaska ain't the place to be a creationist.
Until very recently, Alaska was populated only by hard-case motherfuckers willing to fight hairy elephants and whales with sticks. Humans couldn't reliably make it there until they had evolved and perfected speech, group tactics, and superior tool making skills.

They only showed up in Alaska about six thousand years before Jebus created the Earf.

After all, if it's that important that the little tykes hear both sides of the story there should be no problem.
