10. Hunker down Malaise!
Stay safe. Fay ran a big circle around us, but missed.

It's winds are up to 70mph, gusts to 85. Should hit Haiti as a Cat1 by morning, then head for Cuba.

7. Almost and damn we are fretting about now
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200807_sat.html#a_topad

We're on storm watch now.

This is not just bad news for Haiti and Jamaica - this is seriously bad news for all Gulf Coast residents. If this moves WNW as predicted it will pass South of Cuba or right though Jamaica and in to the gulf. The good news is unless it slows down it won't be more than a Cat 1 for us.

I had a feeling about this storm and picked up some extra supplies earlier today. Hubby was laughing then.

20. Don't Go Nuts
Gus is going to being crossing over the very rough mountain terrain of Hispaniola in Hatti. That will probably drop it back down to a moderate (50-55 MPH) tropical storm. Question on how much it intensifies is whether or not it spends any appreciable time over land in Cuba or stays mostly over the water, with the later being a bad scenario.

My gut tells me this one runs more Westerly, in line with the BAMM computer model. That takes it over the northern tip of the Yucatan. If it goes back into the GOM after that, that's a good time to start worrying.

26. Don't go nuts?
I realised yesterday that this thing was a threat to us in Jamaica. Most Jamaicans will wake up in the morning to the shock that a hurricane is on their doorstep. A Tropical storm watch should have gone out before 8pm to at least put people on notice.

27. The NWS forecast has been trending west with the models.
There's a good chance that it will be even more to the west in the a.m. (I think that the first a.m. forecast is 5:00).

That would mean less interaction with mountains in both Hispaniola and Cuba, and more chance of entering the central or western GOM through the Yucatan.

This could turn into a real problem.
