California churches launch massive effort to destroy rights of GLBT people
Churches, mosques, temples to join efforts to take away human rights

Early on a late September morning, if all goes according to plan, 1 million Mormons, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, evangelical Christians, Sikhs and Hindus will open their doors, march down their front walks and plant "Yes on Proposition 8" signs in their yards to show they support repealing same-sex marriage in California.

It is a bold idea, one that may be difficult to pull off. But whether or not 1 million lawn signs are planted in unison, the plan underscores what some observers say is one of the most ambitious interfaith political organizing efforts ever attempted in the state. Moreover, political analysts say, the alliances across religious boundaries could herald new ways of building coalitions around political issues in California.

The US will not be free until we put religion in its place.

last weekend when we weren't home someone left a long multi-page flyer about the evils of same sex marriage. How I wish we were home when they came by. They would have left here frightened to knock on any doors again.

2. Are they willing to die?
"This is a rising up over a 5,000-year-old institution that is being hammered right now," said Jim Garlow, pastor of Skyline Church, an evangelical congregation in La Mesa. ... Garlow said pastors are planning a 40-day fast leading up to the election.

Any pastors who fast themselves to death rather than see two loving adults joined in marriage ... well, this may sound harsh, but they deserve to die.

I'm tired of making "nice talk" around our opponents.

11. Are you kidding?
If Jerry Falwell had gone on a 40-year fast, he might still be alive today!

And that Rick Warren, a 40-month fast might do him a bit of good too.

Apparently gluttony is no longer one of the seven deadly sins.

4. And that place is in the dustbin of history.....
Where so many other ideas that have long-outlived their usefulness go to be laughed at.

16. How to convert a Christian
Do you believe in Osiris, merciful judge of the dead? --No.
Do you believe in Odin, and keep holy His day (Wednesday)? --No.
Do you revere Ganesh, the Remover of Obstacles? --No.

Congratulations! It's so nice to meet a fellow atheist who has rejected the silly notion that any deities exist!

7. Imagine how much good all that effort and all that money could do
to help the poor, the sick, the hungry, etc. These "religious" people prefer to invest their time and their treasure in promoting hatred. May they come to realize the harm they're doing.

9. Drunk on Power. These Blasphemers will always justify how they invest their time and treasure
in whatever manner that is most convenient to their drive for power.

10. As a liberal (and a christian) I am for gay marriage and homeschooling, choice in general
And religion is not the only issue here I see (here being on a progressive board) when it comes to wanting to restrict other people and their choices in life.

14. "Put religion in its place"?
How would that go, exactly? Perhaps we could copy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalin#Religion">Stalin's model circa 1937-1938? That'd really put religion in its place, wouldn't it? :eyes:

17. Revoking the tax-exempt status of religion in the US
would go a long way to putting it in the dustbin.

I wholly support such an action. They just don't deserve tax-exempt status.
