Who here has ever been called for a "polling" survey??!!
I personally have never been called to be apart of a poll for Presidential choice or otherwise.
In fact I don't know anyone who has.
If you have ever been called let us know.
If so, did they ask you if they could call you back, now knowing your general opinion of things?
Please tell us your stories!!

As an understatement, I don't trust these POLLS.....

2. I have. And they haven't asked if they could call me back.
Decades ago, I worked for a reputable national polling company. There was a great effort made to draw good samples, and to write questions that were not leading and would yield accurate data.

You should be able to tell by the way the questions are written, and the order (and context) in which they are written, if there is an attempt to slant them or not. A good pollster won't do that. You can always hang up if you think you're talking to a bad one.

3. Many many times. There's no story exactly, they've been from lots of different
information gatherers...they ask, I answer - usually- but I've hung up on some that didn't ring genuine.

;-)

4. I have been called, but before I will answer any of their questions
I always ask. Who hired you to make these calls? If they won't tell me, I hang up:)

7. Their canned answer is, "We aren't allowed to know that, because it might influence the poll."
I just laugh and hang up.

11. The WEIRDEST one I ever got was a survey on "Social Security and Retirement" but
she started asking questions about my political affiliation and voting history -- when I refused to tell her who I'd voted for in the last election, she said "But you said you'd participate in the survey."

"I said I'd participate in a survey on Social Security and Retirement, but my voting history isn't open for discussion." She got all huffy and hung up.

One of Karl's krew, I suppose.

6. Polls use small samples to represent the broader public.

I often hear people say this or that poll was obviously flawed because "nobody asked me". It's a not a census, it's a poll. They're not calling everyone.

10. I was called once, don't know who by
what sucks is that they asked me questions to qualify me for the pol...and then because I wasn't married, a homeowner, or making over $40K per year, they said I didn't "qualify" I got mad and asked them why someone who doesn't own their home, or is poor doesn't matter in this country?

they didn't have an answer, said that was just the rules of their poll, apologized, and hung up

I don't trust pols for this reason exactly - who decides who matters? who decides who is Informed and not informed? ya, that's what I thought

12. I got a call last week...
She probably had 30+ questions. Most involved terrorism, how secure I felt, and how much I would rely on the government to help me in case of a disaster (natural or man made).

Some of the questions were surprising, like how many days could I survive on my own? Which party did I feel safer from terrorists with? Did I believe that New Orleans had been restored to pre-Katrina conditions?

Interesting survey, and the woman asking the questions was friendly. I actually enjoyed that one.
She did not ask if she could call again.
