Another Olympic Spoiler with a question
US men and ladies both dropped the baton in the 4 X 100 heats a few minutes ago. In the 2004 Olympics, Jamaica won the ladies gold when the US were expected to take the gold - again they dropped the baton. Is individualism a key variable here?

2. going by the commentators here on norwegian TV
the blame seems to lay with that most your competitors(atleast in the heats) don't train together, as such they don't work quite as well together

Personally i wish i could hear more about the handball tho, since i want to know for sure how the norwegian-korean thing ended

3. I don't think the US Track Assn. works hard enough on relays and baton handling.....
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 08:29 AM by marmar
.... It's always been a problem.

Plus, the Jamaican runners probably have everyone else as nervous as George W. Bush at a MENSA meeting, so they're dropping batons.

:)

4. The Jamaicans can have their team...
Bolt is the most classless athlete that I've seen since throughout the whole olympics. He stands in stark contrast to Phelps in terms of how a champion should behave.

10. Oh please -
If an American athlete acted like Bolt, you, DU and the media would be all over him for acting like a typical, spoiled, asshole American athlete. He's no different from the American relay team from a couple of olympics ago that preened and posed all over the track after they won. They were (rightfully) universally admonished for the way they acted. Actually, I guess there is one key difference - they waited until AFTER they won the race before they started acting like asshats.

11. He/she took his/her cue from Jacques Rogge
and NBC. Others are always classless when personal favorites lose.

When he gave the Russian flowers and told her to win and pass them on - that was classless. When Spearmon hugged him and the two of them did the dance, that was classless. He's a favorite with his fellow athletes so let Rogge, the IOC and NBC bawl out loud.

The most classless thing I saw in these Olympics was the said IOC playing Happy Birthday for Usain this morning after the medal ceremony in the middle of the ladies javelin finals. Now that was classless.

15. "personal favorite"?
I don't give a crap who wins - I hadn't even heard of most of these athletes before the olympics. I just enjoy watching the sports. And, I don't give a crap who likes or dislikes him on the American team.... he still acted like a no-class moron.

He's the fastest man on Earth. Let him have a little fun.

And my feelings would be EXACTLY the same if he were an American.

5. You are on to something - I think it's the same reason
the U.S. gets its ASS kicked on regular basis in the Ryder Cup (bi-annual pro golf competition involving the U.S. and the European Union)...

Utterly pathetic that they couldn't even get out of the heat without doing something stupid - IT WASN'T EVEN THE MEDAL ROUND!

17. Crikey! Somebody got up on the wrong side of the medal stand this AM!
The US baton passes have always been an adventure. The runners do have individual quirks,
but if they practice enough, those get worked out or they are taken into account.

Leave Bolt alone. He's having fun, and I wish he would do that in Hu and Rogge's faces.

There will NEVER be anything as classless as Carl Lewis singing the National Anthem.
(I know this was not in the Olympics, but it is tops for me)

The most classless Olympic moment(s) was/were the behavior of GWB. He makes what Bolt
did look like a Miss Manners act.
