1. Don't have a web address now,
but they did something similar to my wife last year - changed her insurance without her knowledge or permission. It took nearyl 8 months to get it straight.

Start with a phone number, keep lots of notes on who you spoke with , when, what happened, etc. They are very dense.

Good luck

mark

19. Call the postmaster for your area
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 06:13 PM by kgfnally
That doesn't sound right, unless she forgot to fill out a change of address form, or marked it as a temp move instead of a permanent move.

Yes, I work for USPS. Notify the postmaster ASAP.

12. MediCARE is what you're referring to and you still need a supplemental
insurance policy if you're on medicare or you're screwed.

20. MEDICARE is for people on ssdi (like myself)...people on ssi have MEDICAID.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 06:13 PM by QuestionAll
and if people are on medicaid, they generally can't afford a supplemental policy.

15. Don't take MiniMe's comment personally.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 06:06 PM by alstephenson
She's talking about the voter caging where voters are scrubbed from the voting registration because letters are returned to sender. A whole different subject, but related in that SS is trying to say your mother doesn't exist and shouldn't receive benefits because letters to her have been returned to sender.

18. OK. thanks.
I know AARP causes some strong opinions on both sides here, but they are a reliable source of information about stuff like this.

I certainly know that whatever the feelings, "voter caging" made no sense here.

Interesting topic you mention, though. Probably deserves a post all its own.

22. Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you, and it was basically agreeing
Voter caging is illegal and is a favorite Rove tactic. The the other poster is correct that it isn't directly related, but what they would do is send out notices, to mostly poor or black neighborhoods, or hispanic neighborhoods, and if the mailing came back they would remove the voter from the voter roles. Thats how a lot of people were removed. This sounds like the same tactics. They are sending something out they know is a bad address and removing her from the rolls because it comes back.

Might I suggest using registered or certified mail, return receipt requested to send a letter to SSI. Its snail mail, but it will get you proof that they received it.

Here are some links to Medicare that might help:

The basic medicare website is medicare.gov
