Georgia absolutely did have it coming
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 11:29 AM by Tiberius
The international media is where you need to go to find the truth. According to the U.S. media, Russia is the aggressor. Please read Gorbachev's quote; he's not the only one saying this:

"What happened on the night of August 7 is beyond comprehension,” Gorbachev said in an article The Guardian published on Wednesday. “The Georgian military attacked the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali with multiple rocket launchers designed to devastate large areas.”

“Russia had to respond. To accuse it of aggression against ’small, defenseless Georgia’ is not just hypocritical but shows a lack of humanity,” he said in the article.

3. Gorbachev? Isn't he a Russian?
Surprising that he would support the Russian viewpoint on all this. Thanks for finding this nugget of unbiased opinion from a former Russian leader.

5. Really.
We don't have to listen to this. We have the American free press to spoon feed us all the "facts". Why should we accept opinions from anyone else when our ever watchful media is on the job protecting us from information that isn't government approved? And besides who wants to hear from the other side when war is looming? Next thing you know we'll be sitting down and talking to our enemies like a bunch of Europeans.

6. I've been digging through the world press on this one
and the consensus is that Georgia shot first and produced the most civilian casualties.

The BBC is a place to start if you can't kick and claw your way through a foreign language press, though. Their coverage has been surprisingly even handed.

If you can manage to stumble through another language, this site is useful: http://www.escapeartist.com/media/media.htm You can also link to other papers by clicking on their front pages at http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/default.asp The offshore papers are at the end.
