Wall Street and Bankers are Flocking to Psychotherapists' Couches
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street is reeling from losses, and bankers are fearful of losing bonuses at best and jobs at worst. But while New York braces for the economic fallout, one group is benefiting -- psychotherapists.

Bankers suffering from anxiety or depression and looking for pills or deep therapy are making beelines for the couch. And for some it has gotten so bad they want to quit the money game forever.

"I had a guy say to me, 'I want your job," said psychologist and career coach Marilyn Puder-York.

Several psychologists said that the events in March led to a spike in referrals, as Wall Street professionals saw just how quickly their job security could be taken away.

"Traders are more stressed, more uncomfortable, more fearful about how the year's going to turn out, and less confident than they have been in years," said Ari Kiev, psychiatrist and founder of the Social Psychiatry Research Institute.>>>>> snip

1. My Tiny Violin is out for the afternoon.
Down the bar, getting drunk, I think. Anyone have one for this story?

So now we have freaked out and scared traders on the floor? I guess they will be able to make good rational decisions...not.

6. I'm distraught on their behalf.
It must really suck to know those million dollar bonuses could evaporate any day.

8. My girlfriend is a dancer and choreographer in NYC.
Just about everyone in Modern Dance is in some sort of therapy, either all the time or just as needs dictate.

She was telling me this very same thing a few weeks ago.

12. I think artists and creative types...
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 03:30 PM by TwoSparkles
...are keyed into their "authentic self." You can't practice artistic
skills without stoking emotions and insights that lie beneath the surface.

They may be in therapy, but they are more emotionally healthy than people
who are locked down and in complete denial.

Many people use their jobs to seal their authentic selves underneath. Artists
are lucky. Their work fosters self actualization.

Sorry to get all Maslow-ish, but I have a great deal of appreciation and
respect for people who have the strength to quiet their mind. You can't dance,
draw, write, sculpt, choreograph, paint or act unless you've tapped into your
"center." Many people never get to that place.

:hi:

18. And the ones that aren't...
Probably need it more than the ones that are. ;-)

The arts is a brutal business. It is long periods of rejection, interspersed by short periods of the fufillment of your artistic dreams. Sadly, artists are disposable and they know it.

9. Hopefully, they will learn a lesson.. Perhaps the air is right for a change in the way
we do business. It cannot be a satisfying career to constantly screw people for money.

10. Mona Lisa And Mad Hatters
While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,
turn around and say, "good morning" to the night.
For unless they see the sky, but they can't and that is why,
they know not if it's dark out side or light.

(not much)

Oh! The Humanity!
We should probably organize a bake sale to collect money for these poor Damn bankers and investors.
Oh My Fucking God! They might lose their bonuses. They might lose their jobs.
Sad. SAD!

Their jobs and bonuses were secure as long as the houses they foreclosed were worth something.

Now when they foreclose, and kick Mom, Dad, kids and dog out of a house, they get hardly anything in return. Hardy anything ! For the Bankers!
Tragic! Fucking tragic!
Those POOR BASTARDS! I'm crying as I write this.

The poor bankers and hedge fund guys can no longer make a decent living sending American families out of their homes.
Can we get a collection going?
Oh please, Have mercy! Send the bankers a dime.
I'm convulsively sobbing here.
The poor Bankers!
So sad!

15. With gas $4+/gal, they're crying? Really?
I don't want to know how high the market will have to drive the price for them to settle down and get a grip.

16. Oh, come on, people. *I* can find some sympathy for them!
I got it right here...(dig, dig)...No, that's my car keys to my '84 Olds that just barely runs...(dig, dig)...No, that's the key to my apartment with the shingles that are ripping off every time the wind blows and the landlord won't fix it...(dig, dig)...Um, no, that's the receipt for my last purchase of gas at 4.10 a gallon...I'll keep looking...I'm sure it's here somewhere...(dig, dig)...Wow. I wonder why I kept a grocery store receipt for TV Dinners and week-old-expired yogurt?...(dig, dig)...Hmmmmm...Nothing left but pocket lint and 38 cents in change. I guess there wasn't any sympathy there, after all.

So sorry.
