Anthrax story v. Rove contempt >>> distraction?
I hate to be cynical but it is just sooo funny that the anthrax suicide story is snuffing the Rove contempt story.

This is a snip from Wexler's emails;
"...I am pleased to report that just this week we have made real progress in our fight for accountability for this rogue Administration. Just yesterday a federal court ruled against President Bush's bogus executive privilege claims and ordered Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten to testify. In addition, this week the Judiciary Committee voted to hold Karl Rove in contempt for his refusal to testify."

He needs our help, he says. I guess he's as cynical as me. He says they're attacking him for pushing for impeachment. Silly Senator. Silly me. It's hard to be reasonable when the tinfoil fails to block the kayzee-rays.

1. Foreign help to hold the Bush-Cheney administration accountable?
It's time to face it. Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership have made it perfectly clear that they will not hold this administration accountable for any of the crimes they have committed. Forget the little crimes like failing to appear for a subpoena. They won't pursue the big ones! This administration has instituted a policy of torture that clearly violates U.S. and international law. These are war crimes.

The Center for Constitutional Rights filed a brief against Rumsfeld in Germany a few years back. At that time, the German prosecutor declined to pursue the case, because there was still a chance that Rumsfeld could be tried under the American legal system. Clearly that won't happen under the current Democratic Congress, nor under the Republican-packed courts.

We need to organize an effort to get the universal jurisdiction of the Spanish, German and other European courts to begin proceedings against Bush and Cheney. Every signatory to the Geneva Conventions is responsible for enforcing them. We should get them all to begin proceedings.

2. When even the enlightened here at DU drift from this issue
and get caught up in the; our RED chariot vs. their BLUE chariot, I get deflated. The horse race between Republican lite and Republican Taliban is as silly as the fervor over the "home team" playing a damn game. (and I love sports!)

But the house is on fire with this condition of our republic. Time to stop making toast lest we be toast. Republicans in the Dem party are still Republicans.

We need the media.
We need campaign funding reform.
We need clean and fair elections.

We wont get it now, in a republic where Kucinich is black-listed from the "Democratic Party" debates and his estraka is sustained and tacitly approved by "Democrats" trudging selfishly along in the lamelight.

So, I think you're right. Accountability will more likely come from abroad, not here.

Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 03:46 AM by Journalgrrl
why DOESN'T the world at large call them on thier shit? why?

so....who do we write to? do we draft a complaint and get signatures? let's set up the site and get this rolling!

BTW...Rove will be in Sac soon? is someone going to citizens arrest him again? we need to do this to ALL of them until it sticks!!!

ETA: I heard about this anthrax thing in periphery today, but I am sorry - it is what it is, I totally saw it as a distraction. The guy is dead, blahblahblah...I honestly don;t care about those details...I wanna know what the fuck our congress is gonna do about these crimes, NOW. Vacation, my ASS...I couldn't go on vacation if my desk had important things like this on it. just a distraction so they can crawl out of their offices and run away before we get to ask them why they haven't looked at this. It's the equivalent of my 5 yo putting his fingers in his ears and running away when he knows he's busted!

4. Kick & rec!
Let's keep up the conversation on the REAL topics, people...

War Crimes, abuse of power, money laundering, ...shall we go on with the whole fucking list?

where's the petition for me to sign? They are already coming for me anyway if they get to the round-up phase :tinfoilhat:
So I may as well go down with my signature on something that strives to save our rights! and our constitution!...and god knows what else!
