Republicans call for emergency session

Republicans call for emergency session
By Jared Allen and Jackie Kucinich
Posted: 08/01/08 05:43 PM

After a day of protests on the House floor, Republicans ended their standoff with a round of “God Bless America,” and chants of “U.S.A! U.S.A!”

It was not clear when or if they intended to return.

Republican lawmakers spent more than five hours making raucous speeches on the floor of a closed House of Representatives. They demanded Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) return to gavel the chamber back into session and said they would consider asking the president to call an emergency session of Congress to vote on a Republican energy plan.

What began as an impromptu protest around noon on the first day of August recess eventually turned into a GOP pep rally on the floor of the House, which was brimming with Republican staff and interns, who cheered on the 48 members who stayed behind to blast Democrats for adjourning before holding a simple majority vote on Republican plans for drilling in protected areas.

When the Capitol Police finally closed the public galleries at 4:30 p.m., Republicans left the floor to hold a press conference, where they said they were prepared to phone President Bush and ask him to call Congress into an emergency session.

23. You're welcome. Just stating the obvious. The GOP makes it easy.
I mean, we've got the VP shooting his friend in the face with quail shot, a senator playing with strange men in the bus station bathroom, and a senile, grumpy candidate who mixes up the names of countries that start with S.

We had a male prositute sign in but not sign out of the white house hundreds of times, who turned out later to play the role of a white house journalist. We had Bagdad Bob and then Chalalabi, and fake yellowcake from Niger with documents forged in Rome.

All we're missing is the laugh track, the million dollar prize and the hidden cameras.

Just today, the GOP congress was sitting around in the dark for hours with the air conditioning off, after the house had been dismissed for the summer. No one knows what they were doing, but it did not involve their wives or any legislation. Hmmmm....

You can't make this stuff up. Sometimes I think the main stream media doesn't report it because they're afraid to lose credibility. Who would believe this shit?

25. I don't
...believe this shit. I was just saying that to my husband yet again tonight, using examples similar to those you give. It's impossible to believe all that's happened, it's so insane by any normal standards. There's little to do but laugh or cry.

I think They Who Create Their Own Realities want us in the reality-based community to lose our minds.

LOL, I just re-read the bit you wrote about the Repubs sitting in the dark with the a/c and lights off without their wives. If we eventually get thrown into detention camps, I'd like a padded cell next to yours.

22. Thank you!
This point is missed far too often by our own party: they know how to wield power when they have it, and they know how to put up a fight when they are in the minority.

Whereas our side is woefully inadequate on both counts.

Like you, I do not endorse their positions at all. But dayum, we could learn a thing or two about how to play the political game...

All of them?

And, is it really true that no Dems are getting kick backs?

Does this mean my party actually did something smart and useful?
