The King Fish: Preach It Brother Huey
How many men ever went to a barbeque and would let one man take off the table what's intended for 9/10 of the people to eat? The only way you'll ever be able to feed the balance of the people is to make that man come back and bring back some of that grub he ain't got no business with.

--snip--

And now!, the corporate element of this state that would keep the gold hand and hand with them, who profited by, who ransacked this state for the element of their allies are being told what they can do and what they can't do, what they will pay, what they can't keep from pay for the welfare of the people of Louisiana and we expect to have this state ruled by the people and not by the lord and the interest of high finance.

1. Every man a king
and every girl a queen---the lyrics of a pro-Huey Long song I heard once. Obviously written before the feminist movement took hold. :)

2. I remember, as a child, standing in that hallway...
feeling the pockmarks left by the bullets that killed him.

He had been dead 20 years, then, and people still referred to him as "Huey".

8. Good to see you, too
I've gotten a new job--full time at the Foundation--and have been working long hours and loving it!

4. Well yeah, unless you happened to be one of the 30% of working folks
who was um, black.

5. We don't elect Democrats like that anymore. Democrats like that get assassinated in today's America.
Our grandparents and great-grandparents elected Democrats like that. Today, people elect Democrats who are imitators. They are timid leaders who fly pale colors when you need bright, vibrant, and bold leadership.

They don't talk about class warfare. They won't talk about the struggle in the work place. They won't talk about increasing corporate power and weakening labor power. They talk about other things.

6. Huey Long had it going on.
I'm an admirer of one of the most progressive yet brutal politicians to ever live.

Huey was a mixed bag, but he sure knew how to fight for himself and the poor folks he represented.

7. Wasn't there a movie made about him?
Or a TV special? I seem to remember John Goodman as the Kingfish.
