Rachel Maddow next to get a show?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/17/arts/television/17madd.html?ref=arts

"For clues about who might be next to get a show on MSNBC, viewers need not have looked further than “Countdown” earlier this month. For eight nights beginning just before the Fourth of July, Rachel Maddow, the host of a program on Air America, the liberal talk-radio network, served as a substitute for the vacationing Keith Olbermann.
“At some point, I don’t know when, she should have a show,” said Phil Griffin, hours before he was promoted on Wednesday to president of MSNBC. “She’s on the short list. It’s a very short list. She’s at the top.”"

Really nice biographical piece. I would love to see Rachel replace Matthews or Gregory. She is so much better than either of them and I'm glad she says she really wants the job.

3. She looks increasingly comfortable doing TV.
The first show she didn't have the flow quite right, but lately she's been nailing it. I'm finding her questioning adds even more than KO.

29. I agree. She has really "grown into" being on the air (TV, that is).
She seems much more comfortable now. I like what KO said to her last night, "You just can't BUY a day off from this place, can you!"

4. when she gets a show will AAR still simulcast it like they do her radio show now
nothing against Rachel, more power to her, but I am tired of listening to the radio to hear "road to the white house"

I'm glad to hear Rachel, but the rest of them? Oy! Plus, that loud music is incredibly stoopid.

I enjoy Keith, but I have to admit I was a little sad when I turned on the TV expecting Rachel and he was back from his vacation.

8. She's on the short list. It's a very short list. She's at the top.
Music to these ears.

I assume that she'd take that same ferocity I hear in her radio show, amp it up a bit and make Keith look like the centrist he is. (which would be all to the good, of course.)

She's brilliant, she's articulate, she's non-threatening (so opposing viewers won't turn away) and- she's wonderful! Congratulations to Rachel!!

13. As of this moment, TVNewser does NOT have this article noted
Not much of a surprise, even though this should be their bread and butter, as TVNewser has become increasingly conservative after Brian Stelter left. (Is the inside story about how Brett Farve went on Fox News really that important?)

I guess this means thanks for posting this, as even the usual internet sources are failing us now.

MTP is not just about going after the Repubs. It's SUPPOSED to be about going after BOTH sides. I don't see Rachel in that role, although I'd love to see her get her own show.

32. Agreed. They will give it to someone who
has paid his dues, so to speak. And I don't think that will be Tweety; it's MHO he's pissed off too many important DC people with his abrasive style on Hardball. I suppose Andrea Mitchell might still have a shot, but it seems to me she's going to be the victim of that unacknowledged sexism in coveted anchor jobs like this one.

My further guess is Matthews leaves MSNBC after he gets passed over. He doesn't like Olbermann either, and Phil Griffin, the new prez of NBC, came up through the ranks with Keith. He could likely wind up replacing Schieffer on FTN, for example.

19. Doesn't "Race to the White House" have to end in November?
The show is all about the presidential campaign, and that ends in 4 months. It appears MSNBC then has the perfect opening for a Maddow show.

36. I've thought she needed her own show
since the first time I saw her. Very natural, genuine personality and intelligence shines through the camera. It would also be great for them to have a woman host one of these talking heads shows in prime time for once--it's disgusting how CM only puts women in leadership roles on morning/daytime programs. Now if we could only get MSNBC to create some shows hosted by African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos, then I'd say we were really getting some place with this this Civil Rights business this country is supposed to be about.

Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 01:30 PM by LostInAnomie
Not that he is RW hack or anything. His show just sucks big fat balls. It's totally vapid shit that only serves as a platform for partisans to get their talking points out and have them discussed as if they have merit. I actually preferred Tucker's show to Gregory's.

The need to put Rachel in that slot with a totally new show.
