Call to Support: Leonard Peltier - U.S. Penitentiary Lewisburg under Lockdown..........
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 11:29 AM by Waya

Call to support Leonard Peltier on Monday - 7/14 On Monday July 14th there will be a concentrated 'call in' and 'emailing' to get Leonard Peltier his Diabetes testing kit and diabetic shoes. From 10:00AM - 1:00PM Eastern standard time (7am-10am Pacific) please call:Warden Bledsoe at USP Penitentiary LewisburgPhone: 570-523-1251 Let them know that Leonard NEEDS his Diabetes testing kit and diabetic shoes, and his health is suffering because he has been denied these basic supplies. The U.S. penitentiary at Lewisburg is in lock down, lock downs, especially those that last a long while, are dangerous. Why? First, it's common for Leonard not to receive his medications at such times.Second, the prison has told all of us that Leonard has access to a diabetes testing kit in the infirmary.Right? Unfortunately, during a lock down, Leonard isn't allowed to go to the infirmary at all. There's no way for him to test his blood glucose level......

Demand effective medical treatment for Peltier

The Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee is requesting that Peltier supporters contact prison officials to demand that Peltier, who has diabetes, be allowed to have his own diabetes kit so that he can accurately monitor and control his condition.

Peltier, a participant in the American Indian Movement, was wrongfully convicted in 1976 of the death of two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in a shoot-out at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He has been imprisoned ever since, despite revelations of coerced testimonies, fabricated and suppressed evidence, and federal officials stating that it is unknown who fired the shots or what role Peltier may have played.

The infirmary at Lewisburg Penitentiary, where Peltier is being imprisoned, has a general diabetes kit for all prisoners. The committee has raised concerns that due to the embedded memory in the device, Peltier could be receiving false readings. Furthermore, Peltier has reported that there are often no medical personnel on hand when he goes to the infirmary, and he must return over and over until someone is there to assist him.......

1. Leonard is being forgotten I'm afraid to say..
The Feds will never let him go without massive public outrage. He's their "cop killer" (evidence be damned). Unfortunately 1976 is a long time ago and most people don't even remember the siege at Pine Ridge.

Stay strong Leonard.

4. So I called back........
And told a rude man who refused to give me his name that we either got disconnected or they hung up on me. He told me that I would have to call another number (202-307-3126) to get the inmate's number, in order to complain. I asked him if anyone was there, at that number, today. He said that they were there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I called the number--GUESS WHAT? It's closed. Only open during business hours. What liars!

Please give these people a call at the number posted in the OP. There's no way that we are going to get the inmate's number (assuming we even need it) on the weekend, but at least we can show that we care.

It's pretty pitiful that these people that we lock up aren't even known by their names. They are, literally, just numbers.
