FYI: Windows XP will be supported Until 2014 !!
The Future of Windows XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsxp/future.mspx

Last year you told us you weren't quite ready to say goodbye to Windows XP.

We listened. That's why we delayed our plan to stop selling it until June 30, 2008.

We love that you love Windows XP. We've seen it on our website, in e-mails, and through
independent online petition drives. Our engineers work hard to build innovative software
that empowers our customers. It's nice when you tell us we've made a difference.

But our commitment to innovation sometimes means making tough choices. This is one of them.

After careful consultation with our customers and industry partners, we've decided
to proceed with our plan to phase out Windows XP in June.

It'll be a http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&x=16&y=12&C2=1173">long goodbye.

We plan to provide support for Windows XP until 2014.

We know there have been lots of questions—and some confusion—about our plans.

Some key things you should know: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsxp/future.mspx

I only posted this info because I read on DU that it was now defunct but I got
2 KB###### updates this morning, so that made me wonder why and i looked into it. ;)

10. nitpicky point
I never liked that "FORD" gag nearly as much as "Found on Road Dead."

Cuz, isn't "fixing" the same as "repairing?" isn't it kind of redundant?

anyway, XP seems to work pretty well. My point was (and I'm sure you got it) that it's not so much that we "love" it, it's just that XP's bugs are manageable, and we don't really need a friggin' quantum shift in operating systems to live our lives every few years in order to enrich a software company.

Just having an operating system that actually works is fine.

3. I was able to buy a new PC with XP back in May
And I'm glad I didn't miss the deadline. I had been putting off buying a new computer for a while, because I didn't want Vista.

6. I got 2 updates yesterday also and the whole
thing stopped working after that. I did a system restore so I could get back on line. I am no computer wizard and I hate it when they automatically do something to the computer and don't explain what.

I'm glad they'll support XP until I probably have a new computer altogether.

9. That's why I turn off automatic updates.
99% of the updates fix problems in Windoze apps that I don't use-like Internet Exploder and Outhouse Distress.
