Imus makes another racist remark
From Americablog:

When hearing about Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones' offenses that led to his suspension including being arrested six times and being involved in night club altercations:

ANNOUNCER: Defensive back Adams "Pacman" Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys, here's a guy suspended all of 2007, following a shooting in a Vegas nightclub.

IMUS: Well, stuff happens. You're in a nightclub, for God's sake. What do you think is gonna happen in a nightclub. People are drinking, and doing drugs. There are women there and people have guns. So there, go ahead.

ANNOUNCER: Also, he's been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.

IMUS: What color is he?

ANNOUNCER: He's African American.

IMUS: Ha ha, well there you go, now we know.

10. So then according to your statistics...
a criminal is more likely to be white, for all crimes.

23. No, that's not what the stats say at all.
They say that if someone has been arrested and in prison six times, that person is far more likely to be a person of color. It MAY have been a racist remark coming from Imus, but I'm not sure. He very well have been making a comment on what a large percentage of the prison population consists of non-whites when it's whites that commit the bulk of the crimes in this country.

28. And looking back at what you say, yes whites constitute the bulk of people who commit crimes.
But NOT the bulk of the prison population. Doing the crime and doing the time are completely separate things.

14. That's how I take it....

Imus is not a racist, I don't care what anyone says.

He's messed up and isn't perfect, but I don't think he was saying anything more than black people are more likely to be arrested.

21. Black people are arrested disperportionately (sp)

If I'm white, and you're black and we're walking down the street doing nothing you are more likely to get arrested than I am.

25. Yes, this is true. But a criminal is more likely to be white.
From the context of Imus's conversation, he started with a criminal, and erroneously inferred that he was black because he was a criminal, even though according to these statistics, any given criminal is more likely to be white.

30. That's not the only way to interpret it and you know it.

You have your mind set about Imus, and that's fine.

If we're talking about someone who has been stopped by cops numerous times and arrested, and I ask if they are black, you can take than in two different ways. You can give me the benefit of the doubt and take that I mean that blacks are more likely to be stopped and hassled, or you can think that I'm racist against blacks and think they do all the crime.

I understand no one feels he deserves the benefit of a doubt, and maybe he doesn't. Nevertheless, I don't think he means blacks are more likely to be criminals.

54. Why are you willing to give him the B of the D considering his considerable lip?
I went back to read some of your past opinions before I commented here because I wanted to make sure it was worth asking you what you meant.

I don't feel like Don Imus' later explanation is believable.

He is already walking a tightrope considering his last few controversial comments. I understand he just is a provocateur, but he does himself a disservice by saying crap that will get him in the cross hairs. He probably is an equal opportunity a offender but he has a bald spot for AAs. Most of us don't understand the appeal he has to the cross section of America who loves him.

What is that he gives to the public sphere that makes his continued bald spot for AAs acceptable?

4. What a fucking idiot.
Pacman Jones is enough of a piece of shit that he can be ripped left and right without brining an entire race into it. Imus had all that ammo against a complete and utter turd and STILL couldn't hide his fucking racism.

Still, even for Imus it's hard to believe someone so close to being canned could be this stupid again.

People like Dick Gregory talking about race relations.. When's the last time you saw Dick Gregory on a talk show??

And this AA professor, can't remember her name who engages the show with discussions about race.

I mean, they're working with Don Imus, so obviously they've got lots of job prospects elsewhere. Go ahead, guy, mouth off to Imus.

I'm just glad we're able to all agree that simply because these two "outspoken" people are African American, they are therefor incapable of being racially insensitive and incapable of helping perpetuate a harmful stereotype.
