4. Really? He's just been found guilty. When have the guilty been allowed
to stay out of jail?

2. Take odds on whether he gets pardoned by Bush?

6. I'd take that bet
I don't think he'll be pardoned. The blowback would be too much to take.

12. Bush I pardoned Oliver North. Dim Son will have no problem pardoning Libby.
There's already some speculation that Bush might even pardon him soon:

Now all he has to do is keep himself together long enough for the pardon. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush doesn't issue it immediately, to tell you the truth. Scooter doesn't want to go to jail and if they can't keep him out on appeal he might be inclined to start blabbing.

15. Oliver North was never pardoned, I believe...
but you are correct that Poppy Bush pardoned Iran-Contra figures — six of them, in fact. But 1992 and 2008 are very different times. The political price to be paid for a pardon is far greater today than it was then. Plus, I don't think Libby can connect Bush, just Cheney. It may be worth it to just throw Dick under the Bush.

7. It's Not Like He's A Flight Risk
or likely to do any more "harm" before he starts his sentence.

Aren't those the standards used in determining whether or not to grant bail?

8. Not really bullshit
Why should he be jailed? They almost never jail white color executive type criminals. It sucks, but it's not unusual. The damage is done to Bush, that's a good thing. Take the victory we got -- Uncka Dickey has a lot of threatening and bribing to do!

10. Fairly standard procedure.
Just means they don't consider him at high risk of fleeing the country.

Now the real negotiations begin. Bet Fitz will be playing "Let's Make a Deal" re: going States Evidence on Cheney.

and the appeals will last long enough for Bush to pardon him after the November 2008 elections

Isn't that convenient?

17. In All Fairness, It Actually Would've Been Bullshit If They Didn't Allow That. This Is Standard.
Nothing alarming about it whatsoever. Had they have not allowed him to do so, that would've been monumentally shocking actually.
