Going into "activist mode": Pray to God to lower gas prices

Politics, diplomacy, and economic strategies have not been able to halt the spike in gas prices, but a Maryland man is coming to Toledo today with a different plan: prayer.

"We've tried everything and just nothing seems to be working, so we're going to ask God to intervene and help us overcome this terrible crisis," said Rocky Twyman, founder of the Pray at the Pump Movement.

Mr. Twyman was invited by the Rev. Mike Fortune, pastor of Toledo's First Seventh-day Adventist Church, to lead "pray-ins" at local gas stations, host a citizens' forum, and participate in an all-night prayer session in hopes of bringing gas prices tumbling down like the walls of Jericho.

"Our leaders have not been able to solve this serious problem, man, so we have no choice but to turn it over to God and go into activist mode," Mr. Twyman said.

6. Oh FFS...these people DESERVE to pay more
Didn't Jesus say something to the effect that God helps those who helps themselves, when he told the parable of the talents? I wasn't aware that being a good Christian involved disconnecting yourself from reality and hoping some heavenly father would straighten it all out. It almost makes me wish some passing Muslims would lean in and say 'try saying it in Arabic, it works better.'

Goggle 'Rocky Twyman'. He's a PR consultant, who's behind everything from bone marrow drives (good) to a campaign to give Oprah Winfrey the Nobel Peace Prize (um...). I can't help feeling that he's a bit of charlatan taking advantage of people's religiosity. Someone should give these people a library card and tell them that there are answers to life's problems in other books besides the Bible.

10. It can't hurt.
And who knows, if bush sees enough people doing this he might have to do something to help just "prove" prayer works.
