8. DOW smashes 12,000 mark!
That will be the headline, and the lazy and ignorant will simply assume that it went above 12,000 and that's somehow good for them. In the fine print, if their attention can be held that long, will the news that the Dow has dropped below 12,000 again, and that the economic policies of the Bush administration have effectively made the last seven years of work and productivity simply vanish.

Where did all that increased work and productivity go, if not into the national economy? We'll never know.
