2. I had to read them aloud to Mr. DTBK
I read the last one first, and I think that was the funniest. This guy must have too much time on his hands!

4. thanks:
''I bet Tim Jr. writes a book about his father now. Maybe he'll call it "Medium Russ and Me". He can write about how rough it was growing up with a grandfather who was a garbageman and a father who only made $6 million a year and $10 million on a book about a garbageman.''

6. This paragraph cracked me up
"I told my wife and both my adult kids that Tim Russert died. None of them knew who the hell he was. I said, well if you see his picture you'll know who he was. They saw his picture and said, "oh yeah, who is he?" I said, "he was the inventor of the Russet Potatoe" and he wrote a book about how his father was a garbage man and how his father's name was Russ."

I had a similar experience. The day after timmeh died I went to our local farm & ranch supply store to get some dog food and other stuff. Just for fun I asked five people I encountered in there (2 of whom I knew) if they had heard that Tim Russert had died. One guy said he knew and wasn't that a shame. Two people said they hadn't heard anything about it. And two others asked me who the hell is Tim Russert.

It would have been good for timmy to hear that before he died. It would be good if others in the journalistic political elite in Washington heard it too. They are really not as connected with "average Amurkins" as they think. Most of 'em wouldn't know one of us if we bit them in the ass.

There are 300 million of us here in the good ol US of A. I'm guessing well over 200 million of us do not know who Tim Russert was and that at least 275 million do not give a fuck that he has croaked.

7. don't forget about the double indemnity clause if you feel crushing chest pain at work:
Luckily he dropped dead in his office. That means he will get double indemnity on his life insurance. If you die at work you get double the amount, so if he had $1 million in life insurance his wife will get $2 million. If he was still breathing on the way to the hospital the insurance company may claim a technicality and say he didnt die at work; he may have died from work but he died in the amubulance which technically is not at work.

If you have a heart attack at work, don't let them move you until you know you are dead, for real. If you get crushing pain in your chest and pain going down your left arm and cant breathe, quickly get a chain and chain yourself to your desk with a pad lock and swallow the keys, so no one can move you until you are good and dead, and you will get double indemnity.

12. Jay Leno's ongoing Jaywalking segments in which he
shows people pictures of Cheney or other politicians and is met with blank stares is pretty good evidence that people are generally clueless.

A few years ago I commented to another parent at my daughter's school that a newly hired teacher looked like Jesse Ventura. She had no idea who I was talking about. I said, "You know, the wrestler who was elected governor of Minnesota." She became annoyed with me and responded, "Never heard of him."

While the corporate whores are falling all over themselves mourning Russert, there are millions who never watch anything on tv besides American Idol and sports who couldn't ID a picture of Russert if their lives depended on it. These are the same people who vote for morons like Bush (if they vote at all) because he looks like somebody they'd enjoy having a beer with.

One thing the corporate whores do have in common with the ordinary guy on the street - both are so wrapped up in their own little insular lives that they completely fail to see the bigger picture.

9. wow
James reminds me of that comedian KO has on quite often. Can't remember his name. Dark hair. Older. Thin. Rambles from one sentence to another. Same kind of humor.

I could read a lot of JamesPB.

14. Perfect
That's what journalism as we know it today is, primarily: an adjunct to the cult of celebrity, a shareholder in the business of image management to protect, foremost, the business of America. When the powerful pay tribute to Russert ("he was an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades," were President Bush's autopilot words) they're paying tribute to themselves -- to the establishment Russert represented, defended and, unfortunately for us, encrusted.
