McCain/.....CANTOR?
http://cantor.house.gov/

Va's 7th District-basically inherited it from Thom Bliley. Cantor has a Murtha-like LOCK on this district so there is little chance of losing it should a VP run fail.

He brings some youth to the ticket ....and ..... he is Jewish. According to the pundits two FACTS will be
1. Virginia is NOT in play. No need to worry about it just save your energy. Move along nothing to see here.
2. Florida is a LOCK

Cantor. Keep that name in mind.

1. Compelling
AS much as I hate to say it, if I were McCain's VP kingmaker, I would look at this guy. The "youth" thing could definitely help, as well, although Jindal makes a more compelling argument to that effect.

2. You cannot run for Veep
and congress at the same time. If he runs for Veep his seat is an open one.

4. That is not true in every state.
Lieberman ran for the Senate simultaneously with his run for VP in 2000, although some states do require that one can only run for one office at a time. I still to this day think he knew early on what was going to happen, and was hedging his bets.

5. Not to argue but I am not sure about that
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/politics/entries/us_congress/

I found this-stating that Ron Paul is running for re-election to Congress as well as for the Presidency. Duncan Hunter (CA), Kucinich (OH) also

Not sure about Va. law. I am looking but the Va. site is not very good.

3. Damn! I would've sworn Eddie was a Democrat!

Well, I guess McSame needed someone older than him on the ticket. Helps that he's been dead 44 years too...

6. I'm guessing he'll pick a woman
No idea who yet, but it's just a gut feeling. You know, to show that he's a "maverick". :puke:

8. Not sure-River Road? Downtown Chamber of Commerce?
Could be anywhere

The McCain campaign is reversing course and allowing reporters into the candidate’s fund-raisers. Sen. Barack Obama has long allowed reporters into most of his fund-raisers, but Sen. John McCain has resisted. Just recently, McCain defended the policy, saying that that was the request of the people raising the money.

A McCain aide said it had not yet been determined whether every event will be opened to the press or if there will be exceptions. The Obama campaign had begun to make an issue of the matter. Just a few days ago, an Obama aide urged Washington Wire to write about Sen. McCain’s closed fund-raisers.

Starting Monday, a small pool of reporters will be permitted to listen to McCain’s remarks and then report back to the larger McCain press corps. He has a fund-raiser scheduled for Richmond, Va., followed by two in Washington, D.C.

9. I read it was a "finance event"
On David Swanson's site.

http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/33932

MCCAIN in Richmond, VA: At 11:30 AM McCain holds a finance event.

Is raising funds a finance event? I took it to mean he was going to meet with financial people possibly at the Richmond Fed. Only speculating.

11. I was proposing that IF Cantor was picked
the media would decide, for us :grr:, that Va was out and Fla was a lock.

there is nothing, even IF Cantor is picked, to suggest that that would be the case.

13. It wouldn't surprise me if he ran with somebody like Michael Steele from Maryland
He is black and very very conservative, and a regular contributor for Faux News. He was lietenant governor of Maryland under Ehrlich, the only reason they got elected was because Kathleen Kennedy Towson ran a god-awful campaign. He couldn't get elected on his own as Governor. It actually would be a fairly wise choice for him.

I didn't really like Martin O'Malley for Governor, but I voted for him in a heartbeat over Steele.
