Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 07:30 PM by Edweird
Seriously. "There's a full moon next Thursday so they're gonna attack". Come on people. If somebody REALLY knows, i.e. you're on the joint chiefs of staff or are privy to that level of information, I'd LOVE to hear what you know. But this whole "gut feeling" prediction that is going on is starting to sound like doomsday cult crackpottery, or some kind of morbid deathpool for civilization.

5. Are the Iranians trolling DU for intel?
That would make their intelligence agencies about as useless as ours.....

11. A dis-information campaign, from Bush/Cheney..... ? . . . . i dunno
Just remember, If Bush does do something, the campaign is when they'll do it. Otherwise they sometimes seem to be bailing water. There are a few subpoenas outstanding, if Dems turn in the screws, They could be dangerous.

8. I remember "The Rapture" that was supposed to happen in the 80's.
It was a really big deal where I grew up (Memphis,TN). I, being the asshole that I apparently am, mocked people that I knew that were "preparing" for it. Before, during, and after. It was funny how quickly it dropped off the radar after the date passed.....

10. Getting it right by accident doesn't mean anything.
It may or may not happen. I want to hear from somebody that REALLY knows, not somebody whose cat farted and that means it will happen next week.

25. Dude, they didn't attack Iraq out of the blue
Even leaving aside all the UN and congressional maneuvering, it takes some lead time to organize an attack on another country. We're not just going to drop a bomb on Iran in the middle of the night, as it would be easy for them to target our forces in Iraq in retaliation. Naturally we'd want to defend against that possibility.

Remember how long it took to build up troops in advance of invading Iraq? Even with a rapid-transit modern military you can't just UPS the brigades there overnight. It would take a few weeks to build up our capability in the region, and believe me it would be blindingly obvious to everyone what was going on.

Anyway, I judge it fairly unlikely. The armed forces are pretty stretched as it is, and they're extremely hostile to the idea of initiating another conflict. I mean what do you think we would invade Iran with?

13. Yeah, I wish they'd just do it already.
The argument could be made that when they are called out on their plans that they are forced to abort.

If people had been so diligent and obsessive before 2003, we may not have made it to Iraq.

what you or I think about Iran. They are going to do whatever they want regardless of how you feel about it. They don't care if you protest. They have microwaves and detention centers. They'll just tell you to shut the fuck up. Remember the protests before Iraq? They didn't stop or change anything. Subpoenas? They'll tell you to fuck off. And get away with it.....

16. I think that press and pressure have halted an Iranian attack.
Who knows how many times.

Iraq was their fear/revenge chance. The media played along completely. The Intel peps kept their mouths shut. The military helped shovel the shit.

They want to hit Iran, and will most likely find a way to. But, so far the Itel community halted it, with the NIE release. The military stopped it, thanks to Adml. Fallon. The top two at the Air Force were just fired, Fallon is out. We have to stay on them. We. Us. The People. The media, the military, the brave souls who won't let it happen again.

If they are wrong 1,000 times, but prevent one attack, all the shouting is worth it.

17. Did the NIE stop it or not?
Has the military said "no fucking way" or not?

Please explain to me exactly how you are going to stop them even if you were to find out before everybody else?

Ever heard the story about the boy who cried "wolf"?

18. Public awareness.
Since the NIE was published, and major players have warned of what is desired, public approval of an Iranian attack is 7%.

When the media et al, were banging the Iraq War Drums, the approval was more than a majority.

The more the public is warned about the NeoCons wishes, the less likely they will be to buy into the propaganda.

Keep crying wolf, everybody. The wolf is still there, whether we can see it or not.

20. If polls decided wars, we would have been out of Iraq by now.
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 08:57 PM by Edweird
Besides that, if * takes a shot at Iran, and Iran hits back on our mainland, the approval for escalation will materialize instantaneously.
Furthermore, I remain unconvinced that shouting fire in the theater "just in case" helps anybody or prevents anything.
I would love to hear from anyone with the real inside story.
It's the whole "there's a harvest moon next week, so that must be when" stuff I'm talking about.

21. The harvest moon bits are silly.
But, polls pre-invasion have more of an affect than polls to leave. I really believe that the Intel providers and Fallon have at least delayed and possibly prevented an attack.

And, I don't doubt that if they are set on it, they will do it. They have been playing cat and mouse games in Iranian waters that could very well escalate into tit-for-tat and bring the media and public blindly along.

27. another way for them to easily manufacture support
would be a(nother?) false flag attack on our soil. Set off a nuke "See? I told ya they had 'em!" find some "evidence" that it was from Iran and viola, instant support.....
There would surely be martial law "for your protection" of course.....
If they really wanted war with Iran, it would have happened already. That's my unqualified opinion, anyway.
I think what is happening now is saber rattling.

My best guess as to why it hasn't happened yet is that Cheney
hasn't figured out a way to make money off of it yet.

29. That is a Possibility
Part of it may be coming from the financial press as well. The possibility of an impending attack on Iran was widely blamed for the spike in oil prices today. You could be having presidents of financial institutions, auto maker, and all kinds of industries suddenly telling the administration that they could not survive another oil shock.

Whether that will make a difference I have no idea.

It's better to start an attack around the New Moon. Darker skies are an advantage. But I'm not expecting an attack around July 2nd either.
