Reading the June 4 Associated Press article <"McCain And Obama: Polar Opposites"> confirms that the media are in the tank for Sen. Barack Obama.
Although the article generally identifies the polar differences between the two candidates, the prejudice slipped out in a major way. The story states that the biggest question about Sen. Obama is: "Will Obama be able to overcome the country's unsavory history of slavery and lingering bigotry that deeply divides the public to be elected the first black president?"
So, if Sen. Obama is not elected, anyone who voted against him is a bigot. Oh, please! Obviously Sen. Obama has set a historic mark by claiming the Democratic nomination. In the general election, we have to treat him as we would treat any other politician. As voters, we have to listen to the depth of the answers and evaluate the differences in the candidates.
Although I understand that there is a small percentage of voters who will not vote for a black man, I believe that if Sen. Obama loses, it will be because the voters did not approve of his liberal positions — and absolutely not because the voters are all bigots.
